14X BEST BAKERIES IN AMSTERDAM

It’s about time we made a Best Bakery list of Amsterdam! Disclaimer; we haven’t tried all of them ourselves, but we are trying to try them all, so this list will be updated over time.

Margo's Amsterdam- Best Bakeries

Best Bakeries in Amsterdam

From traditional, to pretty and crunchy bakeries that sell viral croissants. After our popular Best Pastries article, we knew we had to shed some light to some of Amsterdam’s best bakeries. Do you have a favorite that is not on the list yet? Let us know in the comments!

Fort Negen – (Jan Evertsenstraat 9)

Believe the hype, because there is a line! Get there early because you may miss out of their crunchiest pieces!  Every Monday the team of Fort Negen puts their heads together to come up with one savoury, and two sweet specials!

Bakkerij Loof, Bilderdijkstraat 38-40

This beautiful bakery (same owners as Binnenvisser, Conerstore, Twee Prinsen) is open 7 days a week for breakfast and lunch, and they have a small little terrace where you can enjoy a good cup of coffee and a delicious pastry. It’s hard to choose a favourite, since everything is so delicious here, but try to stop by for the sourdough croissant with maple caramel and candied hazelnuts. Do you like sourdough like we do, then you should definitely take home their baguettes, heaven! They have a small bookshop and library where you find books about baking, cooking, and everything in between.

Margo’s – (Bellamyplein 18H & Eerste Tuindwarsstraat 2a)

This popular bakery and café is 100 percent plant-based and located in the heart of the city. It is known for its high-quality artisanal pastries, bread, and brunch options. There are two locations to choose from, run!

Margo's bakery Amsterdam

Bakkerij Wolf – (Wolvenstraat 22)

Our favourite bakery in the city centre of Amsterdam. They have a small corner where you can get your daily fresh bread (their sourdough is yummy). Try out the flakey, crunchy and buttery croissants stuffed with almond frangipane and shaved almonds on top! Next door is their restaurant where you can order some amazing pastries from the bakery, sandwiches and coffee. A good way to start your day is to stop by and have our Pulled Chicken Sandwich with chipotle and pickled pointed cabbage. Bakkerij Wolf open their doors on the Rozengracht soon!

TIP: We advise you to get your bread, and especially pastries before noon. This way it’s still crunchy and you won’t be left with a soft or dry piece of dough, unless they bake though the afternoon.

Pantonia – (kerkstraat 163)

This fairly new bakery in Amsterdam (2024), sell the most amazing pastries. They describe themselves as a gallery-atelier for pastry, something unique. Nice to know; they serve sandwich croissants! We’re curious to try them all soon!

Stadsbakkerij As – (Conradstraat 471)

This tiny hidden bakery is situated in East. There are many other items on sale like milk, sauces. There’s a small selection available of pastries and bread. There’s only seating outside, so opt for take-away during the colder months.

Et Claire – (Beethovenstraat 38)

We’ve mentioned this stunner before, but it has to be said; they sell some great croissants and pastry goodness. Sidenote; they are one of the more expensive bakeries in this list (their coffee is no exception), but we think it’s worth it, occasionally.

Rise Bakery – (Albert Cuypstraat 208)

When you walk in this bakery, it’s a bit steamy and hot because you are literally walking into the bakery itself. A counter with beautiful freshly baked pastries on display will greet you. Go for the round wheel croissants, especially when it has the mango passionfruit filling! Crab a coffee to go while you’re here. Located on the famous Albert Cuyp.

Willem-Pie Vegan Bakery – (Johan Huizingalaan 76)

Owner Willemijn is convinced by the impact of animal products, gluten and refined sugars on her mental and physical condition. Therefore she creates guilt-free sweets, bread and cakes that are also delish!

Scandanavian Ambassy – (Sarphatiepark 34)

Get your cinnamon buns here people, damn! Their beautiful buns are made freshly throughout the day. They change their pastries now and then, but right now they are serving delicious buns filled with a creamy marzipan filling, roasted almonds and fresh cream. Good to know; many vegan options too, plus the coffee is pretty good also!

Bakhuys – (Sarphatistraat 61)

They’ve been around since 1926, for five generations, so they know what makes a good piece of bread.

Le Fournil de Sébastien – French Bakery – (Olympiaplein 119)

Transport yourself to France for a minute, because at Le Fournil de Sébastien they make it happen. Crispy French baquettes and croissants are one of the reasons people love this bakery in Amsterdam.

BunBun – (Noordermarkt)

Another new kid on the block! They create delicious buns with thick croissant dough, so you can just imagine that, right?

Van Stapele Koekmakerij – (Rokin 17)

okok, it’s a favorite and they are particular famous for that one deep chocolate cookie with a creamy filling. BUT, although it’s good, we think it’s quite heavy and we wouldn’t buy a full box. Needless to say, they belong in this list.
