05 Dec 8X HIDDEN GEMS IN PARIS
We’re always out on the look for secret and local spots in a city, and Paris is no exception. Please enjoy these 7 hidden gems in Paris, and save them for your next visit!
First and foremost; Take the train to Paris. Taking the train to Paris is a no-brainer if you’re coming from nearby countries like the Netherlands or Belgium. It’s fast, stress-free, and eco-friendly. Why fly when you can relax on the rails? We traveled with Eurostar, that is celebrating its 30th birthday this year!
Here are some hidden gems to explore once you’re in Paris:
Le Café du Commerce – such a hidden gem in Paris
Tucked away in a less touristy area of the city, this classic French restaurant spans three floors. The food and ambiance are fantastic, though the lighting is a bit brighter than expected. Make sure to book a table to enjoy this gem!
La Mezcaleria – a hidden cocktail bar
Check out this Mexican Speakeasy bar in Paris! Located in Hotel 1K Paris, the colorful lobby eventually leads you through their restaurant, past the open kitchen, a door, and eventually through a curtain. Step inside the red/pink interior, and find a bar full of different mezcal bottles. Cocktails here are more than amazing, and although this hidden cocktail bar in Paris loves its tequila, they also serve any cocktail imaginable.
Macarons for 1 euro!
Located in Commerce, this shop sells macarons for just 1 euro each! Usually, macarons are at least 2,50 each, if not more, because of the long labour that goes into it. Did you know macarons are gluten fee? They sell them in various flavors, but we looove the praline and vanilla ones! This is the place where you can buy macarons on a budget:
- Maison Georges Larnicol (4 different locations across Paris)
Au Vieux Paris d’Arcole – loved by locals
One of the oldest cafés in Paris, this charming spot is adorned with a stunning wisteria planted after 1946. Don’t miss the upstairs area, featuring a striking red velvet interior. It’s a favorite among both locals and visitors!
Want to stay nearby the train station? Discover 25 Hours Hotel Terminus Nord – a funky hotel with colourful rooms!
Cour du Commerce Saint-André – mesmerising street
This picturesque street is worth a visit for its charming atmosphere. While the restaurant in the photo may be Instagram-famous, take time to explore the entire area. Wander, grab a drink, and end the evening with cocktails at Grouvie, downstairs from Brasserie Des Prés.
Bike Around Paris – the best way to see Paris
Cycling is a fantastic way to explore Paris! We rented bikes from Paris Bike Tour, who offered great tips on discovering hidden gems by bike. Skip the typical tourist traps and enjoy a more local perspective.
A. Lacroix Pâtissier – ssst, don’t tell anyone
Don’t miss this patisserie near Notre Dame. Their almond croissant is the best we’ve ever had—seriously. They also serve giant macarons and tasty sandwiches. Now you know where to stop for a perfect pastry fix!
Le Barn – a gem near Paris
Le Barn is only a 45 minute drive or train ride away from Gare du Nord. You can take the Eurostar train, and commute your way into the French countryside, easy and sustainable. Le Barn is nestled in Haute Vallée de Chevreuse Regional Natural Park, and is more than a hotel. Certainly, it’s a wonderful place to rest your head, but it’s also a restaurant, a spa, vegetable garden and experience. Read more about this hidden gem near Paris.
