AMAZING PLACES TO STAY ON IKARIA

If you are exploring the opportunity to visit Ikaria, your at the right place. Don’t hesitate, just book your trip, because you won’t regret it. In fact, Ikaria may just be one of our favorite Greek islands we’ve visited – and we’ve seen twelve already! In this article we’re going to tell you about some of the most amazing places to stay in Ikaria.

Places to stay in Ikaria

Now, we know it’s a difficult task to find a nice hotel, or accommodation on an island you may have never been before. Which area is good? Perhaps you’re looking for a child friendly spot, or somewhere quiet in the mountains. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. We’ve divided this article into different regions, so you can pick and choose the best places to stay in Ikaria.

Before you visit Ikaria, make sure to rent a car. Exploring the island (especially during the high season) is difficult without a car. There are taxi’s on the island, but not many, and you can’t really rely on them, as life on Ikaria is slow and relaxed.

Armenistis

This is probably our favorite area on the island, as it’s magical and has the best of both worlds. One one side you have a little centre with a few restaurants, cafés and shops – yet it’s not too crowdy. On the other hand you have nearby beaches like Paralia Armenistis, and Mesakti. We stayed at two accommodations in this area, which are both amazing, yet different from each other.

Toxotis Villa’s

In one word; amazing! Owned by a born and raised Ikarian and his wife, Toxotis Villa’s is a dream. With a stunning infinity pool, overlooking the rugged sea. You can either book a luxurious room, or apartment. They also have a traditional Ikarian house available for families in which we stayed at. If you can, book a breakfast with your stay, because it’s wonderful eating it in the garden next to the poolside. From Toxotis Villa’s, it’s about 5 minutes walk towards the centre. Selene

Honestly, this hotel is a little bit more difficult to find online, but now and then you can find some gems! This was one of those, and we booked one of the six boutique rooms. Relatively new, everything looks top notch. The bathroom is luxurious, the beds feel expensive and comfortable, and we loved the interior design. Run by local Theano and her American husband, they know how to treat their guests. Breakfast is amazing, and you are located right in the centre of Armenistis, next to a little church. There is no pool, but with the beach nearby, it’s not something you’ll miss. Book this stay here.

Raches

If you’re looking for a true local experience, try to visit Raches and its village. There is an incredible restaurant here by the name of Platanos Restaurant (best food we’ve had on the island), and it’s located in the mountains, so you really need a car to get there. There aren’t many accommodations around, but rest assured you will feel completely relaxed if you stay around here.

Monopati Eco Villas

This wonderful place to stay in Ikaria is traditional, yet modern and comfortable. Your view will be of the ocean, and all you hear are crickets and the wind. Although you are not located near busy town, Kampos is 13 km away from this villa, and Koskina Castle is 24 km distance. Nice to know; this accommodation has a hottub!  Book this stay.

Evdilos

Another quiet and calm place to stay is Evdilos, which stretches out from the port towards the middle of the island and across. We have an amazing places to tip that wine lovers would appreciate, and other amazing places to stay in Ikaria.

Karimalis Winery

This winery, located in Pigi, is one of the best natural wineries on the island. Karimalis Winery has been featured in the recent Netflix series about the Blue Zones. Next to their winery and restaurant, they rent out a few traditional Ikarian houses made of stone, that will keep you cool during summer. Owners Giorgos and Ilene are busy bees around the premises, and serve the most amazing and nutritious food, to level up your lifestyle. You can also book a workshop and wine tasting here.

Kerame Hotel

Somewhat larger, and more child friendly is Kerame Hotel. Close to the main port of Evdilos, and less than 1km from Kiparisso beach. Family rooms and apartments are available, and there is a nice pool with plenty of sunbeds. A perfect place to stay on Ikaria, if you want to be close to the beaches, supermarket, restaurants, and port. Book this stay.
