Happy new year! (can we still say that?) Anyhow, it’s been a little while since we’ve posted an event calendar, but we’re back at it! Enjoy the Amsterdam Event Calendar for the first month of the year!
Amsterdam Light Festival
When? 29th of Nov until the 20th of Jan
It’s the 7th edition already! And this year it’s all about hidden messages that translate into beautiful objects that shine at night. ‘The Medium is the Message’ are the famous words from scientist Marshall McLuhan. 30 artists took these words to heart and created something beautiful, for you to see. Enjoy a boat tour, or just walk over the canals.
Discovering Food Photography at Foam
When? from the 13th of January, Keizersgracht 617
Photography gallery Foam is hosting this brand new exhibition. Explore beyond #foodporn! Join As Soup As Possible on a guided tour of “Feast for the Eyes – The Story of Food in Photography”, the upcoming exhibition at Foam, and discover the visual history of food with us.
Bali Brunch at Mama Makan Hotelnacht edition
When? 20th of January, Hyatt Hotel
You can order a few dishes à la carte and step up to the buffet, where you can grab some traditional Gado Gado, Salads, Soto Soup and go crazy on the colourful dessert table. You can go back as many times as you want, so make sure you arrive with an empty stomach! The brunch costs €35,-.
Jazzy Sundays
When? Sun 20th of January, Hoxton Hotel
It may be chilly outside, but nothing blows away the frost like some soul-warming jazz. Our series of Sunday night concerts continue in Lotti’s, the Hoxton hotel restaurant/bar. Enjoy jazzy sounds and cocktails!
Museum Market January edition (with the ice skating rink!)

Put on your warm wintercoat and go shopping at the Museum market where there will be fashion, food and drinks. ChinChin to the new year!
Boozy Brunch
When? Every Sunday, Lokaal Edel
You can describe this brunch as a chaotic livingroom where you can take your friends to, eat, drink and play games while listening to music. It’s child friendly so bring your little ones!
Oysters & Bubbles at MOER
When? Sunday 13th of January, Restaurant MOER Amsterdam
Oysters for €1,- and bubbles for €5,-! Add some live Jazzy sounds and you have yourself a chill Sunday!
Hotel Nacht
When? 19th & 20th of January, several hotels in Amsterdam
Discover the best and funky hotels in Amsterdam with parties, drinks and games throughout the evening and daytime! It’s a staycation because Hotel Nacht was officially set up for Amsterdammers by Amsterdammers. Check the full program.
First Art Fair 2019
When? 16th – 20th of January, Passenger terminal
The FIRST ART FAIR is new years art event for modern art and it’s celebrating it’s second edition. At the fair you will find painting and sculpture, glass, photography and jewellery from hundreds of renowned and young artists, spread over the stands of about 30 selected galleries from all over the country. www.firstartfair.nl
National Tulip Day
When? 19th of January, Damsquare
Each year, the dam square is covered in thousands of beautiful tulips that the public can pick for free! National Tulip day is here to kick off the new tulip season and to celebrate the Dutch flower. Last year, we had the privilege to pick the first ones. Entrance is free and starts at 1pm.
Go With The Glow Vegan Brunch
When? 26th of January, Persijn at QO
They are back with a brand new vegan brunch in the new year. They are also celebrating their 3 year anniversary so it’s going to be a great edition. The brunch will cost €45,- and guest receive a 4-course meal, a 7 Days Glow Challenge e-book, and all the info you need about veganism.
IJhallen Flea Market
When? 26th & 27th of January, NDSM
Looking for that cool vintage jacket? Or perhaps some clothes for your little one? (as they grow out of them so fast!) Or maybe you’re searching for that unique retro style chair? The IJhallen fleamarket is the place to be! It opens at 9am and there is a €5,- admission fee.
