Wow, is it August already??! Summer is going by so quickly but that’s probably because we’re having so much fun! It’s all about festivals this month and a few quirky events you shouldn’t miss out on! This is the Amsterdam events calendar for August.
Summer Nights in Artis
When? June – July – Aug, Artis Zoo
What? Saturday evenings in the Zoo until the sun goes down.
Artis Zoo let’s people enjoy Saturday evening until the sun goes down by opening up their doors to the public. There will be performances, music, storytellers and you can learn about the animals and their nightly activities. Check the website for more info
The Art of Banksy
When? 18th of June until 30th of Sept, Beurs van Berlage
What? Work from the legendary street artist Banksy

The Gay Pride Amsterdam
When? 6th of August, Canals of Amsterdam
What? Express yourself! Dress in pink if you dare..
The Canal Parade is the highlight of the Amsterdam Gay Pride, with elaborately decorated boots and crew and frantic visitors along the side.
On the first Saturday in August the participants on 80 boats provide a spectacular show with DJs, sensational themes and lots of fun, which is infectious to all spectators on the banks of the Prinsengracht canal and Amstel river. During the parade are also many smaller boats along the canals, which increase the fun.
The Canal Parade starts at 13.30h. in Westerdoksdijk port and goes through the Prinsengracht canal to the Amstel River. For all the parties check here.
Vergulden Summer fest
When? 12th of Agust , Vergulden Eenhoorn
What? Celebrating summer in the garden of east bound De Vergulden Eenhoorn
Enjoy sangria cocktails, your feet in the grass, enjoy tunes from the vinyl mobile, silent disco and a tasty BBQ! For more info check Facebook.

BBQ Festival
When? 7th of August, Dok Amsterdam
What? BBQ Festival with several BBQ food stands, beer stands
BBQ entertainment, many burgers (Meat, vega, chicken) Lounge area’s and the amazing BBQ smell! Oh and entrance is free! Facebook.

De Parade
When? 12th -28th of August, Martin Luther King Park
What? A playground for children and adults with food and theater
A little out of town and yet the whole of Amsterdam is coming to this theater festival like there’s no tomorrow! Enjoy beautiful, funny and amazing performances, drink wine, enjoy the carousel and eat tasty foods and sweets. The parade cost 7,50 euro but you have to pay for the shows separately. www.deparade.nl

What? Urban music festival

What? Hiphop, Food & Drinks
The Tolhuistuin in Amsterdam North is always inventive when they organize events but sometimes a simple event is just as effective. Juicy is all about hiphop music, good food and tasty drinks. It starts at 5pm so the perfect after work location! Entrance is free! Check their events page for more info.
Festival The Brave
When? 13th of August, Tuinen van West (gardens of west) / 1pm – 2am
What? singer songwriter festival
With 10 international acts from 8 different countries, this festival has a wide range of performances. Tickets are 15 euro for adults and 5 euro for kids. www.festivalthebrave.nl

When? 19th – 28thth of August, Marineterrein
What? Enjoy crafs, buy them and learn how to make products
Makerfestival 2016 brings together over 200 hackers, crafters, coders, DIYers and garden shed inventors. It’s show and tell! Everyone is invited, entrance is free!

Jordaan Festival
When? 26th – 28thth of August, Jordaan
What? The real Amsterdam festival in the heart of Amsterdam
Organized by locals with a heart for the city. The Amsterdam jordaan is an area where some of the most famous Dutch people grew up. Uitmarkt
When? 26th – 28th of August, Leidsesquare/Museumsquare
What? Cultural festival in Amsterdam
With more than 350 free concerts and performances, the Uitmarkt is one of the best cultural happenings in the Netherlands. Performances are held outdoors and indoors at numerous theatres, museums and venues near the Leidsesquare and Museumsquare. For the full program check here.

Amsterdam Woods Festival
When? 26th + 27th of August, Amsterdamse Bos
What? A small cosey festival between the trees
Surrounded by a scenic forest, close to Amsterdam, visitors can enjoy new and upcoming indie, pop and rock music from local and international artists. Furthermore, Amsterdam Woods Festival presents a selection of music documentaries in collaboration with IDFA and Melkweg and offers a delicious food line-up.
