Bali with young kids

Why should you travel to Bali with young Kids?

Honestly, we think Bali is one of the best destinations in the world for a family vacation. However, we understand if there may be some concerns. Here are some of the answers you might be looking for before booking your flight to Bali.

  • Is Bali safe for children? Yes and no. Yes, because the people are super nice and gentle with kids here. They will love them as their own and families feel so welcome. But let’s explain the no. You are in a tropical location, and for small babies you need to be more careful when it comes to infections (which they might pick up during the flight). Our advice is not to travel with a baby younger than 6 months. That being said, it’s totally up to you. For all the tips concerning a trip to Bali with kids, check this article.
  • Will children be bored? No. Because besides the beaches, there are indoor playgrounds, waterparks and other family friendly activities you can do. Many hotels have kids clubs, but we’ll show you in this travel guide.
  • Is Bali expensive? No, but you can make your budget as crazy as you wish. Once you get to Bali, you won’t spend a lot on food if you don’t want to. Depending on where you are staying, you can keep cost lower for private owned villa’s, instead of massive luxury hotels.

We’ve divided our itinerary into different parts on the island, so it’s easier to navigate. The longer we stayed in one area, the more it means we loved it. Of course it’s up to you how you want to plan your days on Bali.

Seminyak – 5 days

We started our Bali family adventure in Seminyak, since its just a short drive from the airport, ideal when you’re traveling with kids and want to settle quickly. Not only is the area convenient, but it’s also packed with family-friendly restaurants, supermarkets. Furthermore, you have a wide selection of beautiful villas that offer all the comforts you need for a trip top Bali with kids. All in all, Seminyak is great place to recharge after your long flight and adjust to the time difference, and get used the island’s rhythm.

Where to stay in Seminyak?

We kicked off our Bali adventure at The Chands in Seminyak, a gorgeous villa we found through Villa Finder. After browsing for something spacious and family-friendly near the airport and the beach, this villa immediately stood out to me. The location couldn’t have been more convenient: just steps away from some hip & trendy family hotspots, and a short ride to Canggu and some amazing beaches.

The Chands bali

The villa itself felt like our own private sanctuary: Big comfy beds, spacious bathroom, our own private pool, and stunning views of the beach. During the first two days, we enjoyed staying in, a healthy, fresh breakfast was served right at our villa. For dinner, we either dined downstairs or picked up something delicious from the local warung next door.

What really made it special was the team and the great service. The wonderful team help you with organizing tours, dining experiences in-house and babysitting. The right balance between luxury and comfort, which made it an ideal base with kids.

What are the best restaurants in Seminyak with kids?

Cafe Bali – a calm escape in the buzz of Seminyak, offering a calm and comforting atmosphere. The shaded outdoor seating area includes a small playground, where kids can play while you can enjoy your fresh coffee, juice and meal. You can eat local (try Tipat Cantok) and international dishes.

La Lucciola A longtime favorite for its beachside setting, La Lucciola serves amazing Italian classics while watching the sunset. This restaurant is super spacious and open, so you can watch your kids play in the front of the restaurant while enjoying the view and the amazing flavors.

Made’s Warung Let’s get local! We love the Indonesian cuisine and therefore we try as many as we can. Our tip, go to Made’s Warung for affordable local dishes and an amazing experience. With a relaxed setup and plenty of space, it’s perfect for families, offering daily events in the evening (Balinese dance, live music, tango and more).

Warung Pantai Another amazing Warung, this time right on the beach next to The Chands Villas. Warung Pantai is a laid-back gem offering delicious local dishes at affordable prices, unlike many neighbors. With your feet in the sand and the ocean just steps away, it’s the perfect spot to relax whilst enjoying some great dishes. The open-air setting makes it ideal for families who can play in the sand. There’s often live music which make the place so much fun. Warung Pantai delivers that true Bali charm.

Best activities for kids in Seminyak

One of the things you might wonder when you’re in Bali. After all, some kids want a little more action than staying in a villa all day. Here are a few highlights for activities with kids in Seminyak.

Waterbom Bali

Known for one of the best water parks in Asia, Waterbom Bali offers a full day of excitement for both kids and parents. Tickets cost around €35 for adults and €27 for children, it’s not the cheapest, but definitely one of the most memorable. The park is well arranged and super clean and they have excellent food options. Its super save to bring your kids, since lifeguards are positioned at every attraction, and younger children have their own dedicated zone with shallow pools and mini slides

Waka Waka Play Café

Are you staying for a longer time and you would like to have a moment to yourself, Waka Waka Play Café is the perfect indoor space where kids can play all day long. It’s a hidden gem for families in Bali, offering a clean, air-conditioned scenery packed with toys and interactive games. They serve kid-friendly meals and good coffee in the cafe on-site, so everyone leaves the place with a happy face.

Perrenan / Canggu – 4 days

Canggu and Pererenan are side by side on Bali’s west coast, both filled with hip and trendy spots offering exceptional international cuisine. They provide a unique mix of nature, creativity, and beachside relaxation. While Canggu is known for its vibrant culture and bustling tourist scene, Pererenan offers still a more relaxed, family-friendly vibe with fewer crowds and more open spaces.

Many of the places in Pererenan are family-friendly, featuring kids’ menus and play areas to keep the kids entertained. And with Canggu just a few minutes away, you’re always close to more dining and entertainment options. For those into wellness, both areas are home to modern yoga and Pilates studios, and of course for massages.

Best places to stay in Canggu

Oh boy, where do we start. Of course you can look for villa’s, hotels and apartments here. But below you can find the accommodation we’ve tried and tested!

Grün Canggu
Although this accommodation isn’t located in Pererenan, it’s still tucked away in a peaceful area. It’s calm, relaxing, and offers a nice break from the busier parts of Canggu. It has a really laid-back vibe that makes you want to stay a little longer. The treehouse offers a unique stay where rustic charm meets modern comfort.

Unwind in your private pool during the day and wake up with the sounds of nature and ricefield views. It’s the kind of place where you slow down and reconnect with your family in nature. And when the sun begins to set, the sky turns into a show of colors, a moment you’ll remember forever. Discover this stay here.

What are the best restaurants in Pererenan & Canggu?

The Hula

I would love to have this spot in Amsterdam, Wow! (can we try?) Everything we tried was incredibly flavorful. The Hula isn’t just about pretty plates for Insta they truly know food. Every dish feels thoughtful, with a real focus on seasonal produce and ingredients that are either sustainably caught or locally grown. It’s the kind of spot where you can taste the care that goes into each bite. Whether you’re there for a laid-back brunch or a healthy midday pick-me-up, The Hula delivers on both style and substance.

Acme Bali

When the morning calls for a cup of great coffee, this laid-back bakery and coffee roastery across the Hula is the place to be. Freshly baked goods, home-roasted coffee, and all-day breakfast. Served daily from 6:30 AM until 5 PM.

Shelter

When passion meets ordinary flavours. This stunning spot is a culinary treat and offers a vibrant atmosphere. Have lunch or diner in the lush tropical garden and enjoy an extraordinary dining experience. One of our favorite dishes is the spiced lamb flatbread fired up in the oven and the 12hr smoked beef brisket.

Shelter

Times Beach Warung

Times Beach Warung is a laid-back beachside spot, and one of our favorite spots right at the beach. Perfect for enjoying a great cup of coffee and some fresh pastry while watching surfers ride the waves from the shade. This cozy spot is offering both indoor and outdoor seating and to-go options when its too busy or when you want to go for a walk. The menu features next to delicious bakery treats and amazing coffees also fresh fruit bowls, focaccia, tortillas, and so many other culinary delights.

Every other Tuesday, they host movie nights, especially suited for families with older kids, a fun, low-key evening at the beach.

Just around the corner from Zali (Lebanese‑Mediterranean restaurant), Rize Bali is a true hidden gem in Canggu, near Pererenan Beach. Set in a colorful, leafy open-air space, this spot offers a unique blend of relaxed brunch vibes and bold Indian flavors. Rize is known for its authentic, flavorful Indian dishes, from rich curries to street food-inspired bites, along with delicious chai and craft cocktails. If you go, don’t miss the chicken biryani

Hereby a few of our favorite Warung restaurants in Pererenan for take away and affordable: Warung Nyoman Pererenan, Warung Yess and Warung Kezia.

Best beaches to visit around Canggu

Although you don’t have many beaches to pick from, these two are worth a visit, especially if you travel to Bali with young kids.

Pantai Batu Bolong

Batu Bolong is one of Canggu’s most popular beaches, with cafés and local warungs offering drinks, snacks, and sunbeds right by the sand. The vibe is super laid-back, with golden sunsets and ocean views that make it easy relax for hours. Especially when kids are entertained, they can play freely in the sand, build castles, or even try a surf lesson with one of the many schools along the beach.

Pantai Batu Bolong

Pererenan Beach

Another beach with unforgettable sunsets. This is a black sand beach, meaning the sand gets really hot in the heat of the day, so always wear sandals or flip-flops. Unfortunately you can’t swim since the current is dangerous. What you can do is Sip a fesh juice, local coffee, or a Bintang while watching the waves in one of the beachside cafés & warungs.

Pererenan Beach

Uluwatu – 8 days

As you may have heard, Uluwatu is the surfer’s paradise on the southern tip of the island, but it’s also the place of sandy white beaches, luxury beach clubs, amazing restaurants and stunning sunsets. Uluwatu may surprise you with its variety of family-friendly activities that offer more than just surfing and sunsets.

The best family friendly accommodations in Uluwatu?

Family Nest – We can’t recommend @familynestbali enough, we had such a lovely stay here. From the moment you arrive, children feel completely at home. It’s a villa resort tucked away in Bingin, built entirely with families in mind. The villas range from one to four bedrooms, each with a private pool, equipped kitchen, and a spacious living area. The villa was personalized with toys and books, and the private pool had inflatables. There’s even a kids’ bedroom stocked with toys and books, and a bathroom where little ones can feel independent. Discover this villa.

They also have the Pangolin Kids Club, a 1,000 m² space with indoor and outdoor play areas, run by professional nannies. It offers a full daily program for kids aged 0 to 16, from 8 AM to 8 PM.

Grün Uluwatu – Set in the lush hills of Uluwatu, Grün Uluwatu offers a peaceful retreat surrounded by nature. Choose from ocean-view villas with private pools, cozy treehouses, or wooden-style retreats Village, all designed with comfort and calm in mind. The property features yoga and Pilates classes, massages, a central pool with stunning 360° views, and a menu full of fresh, amazing food. We didn’t want to leave the property because everything was so well arranged. It’s the kind of place where you wake up to birdsong and end your day with a sunset. Check this place out.

What are the best restaurants in Uluwatu?

Plenty of choice in restaurants that are family-friendly also. Below are some of our favorite food spots.

Cashew Tree

We visited The Cashew Tree with our kids and it was the perfect spot. Relaxed and stylish, and super family-friendly. The food was great, the butter chicken was delicious. Kids’ meals were healthy and tasty, and the outdoor playground was a big win.

Ohana Restaurant

A dream for families, offering amazing kids’ meals to choose from and there’s plenty of space for kids to play, plus a kind supervisor on-site so parents can actually relax and enjoy their meal. The food was excellent, with great healthy and tastful options.

Salty Coffee

If you’re near Bingin Beach and craving a good brunch, Salty Coffee is a must-visit. It’s the kind of place where you can grab a healthy meal and a seriously good cup of coffee, all in a relaxed, friendly setting. Afterward, take a stroll around the nearby shops to soak up the laid-back vibe of the area. It’s a great spot to recharge before heading back to the beach.

Gooseberry restaurant

For a truly incredible meal, head to Gooseberry Restaurant. They focus on seasonal ingredients and serve up everything from prime aged steaks and contemporary BBQ to French-inspired dishes. Whether you choose to dine indoors or poolside, it’s a special experience. My personal favorites are the truffle beef carpaccio and the 12-hour slow-cooked Wagyu brisket, both absolutely delicious.

Magus Warung

Our favorite beach spot in Uluwatu is Magus Warung, a treasure located right on Melasti Beach. It’s not too crowded, with a laid-back vibe, friendly staff, a great pool to cool off in, shaded areas, sunbeds, and an amazing menu with affordable prices. Pasta, flatbread, cheese nachos, taco’s and much more that both kids and adults like. Kids can play in the sandy area around the pool or head down to the beach for more fun.

Magus Warung Beach club

Uma Beach House

Another beach club worth checking out on Melasti Beach is Uma Beach House. This chic spot is part of Umana Bali, Hilton’s LXR resort, and you can feel it in the nice design, the great service, and the thoughtful menu. It’s a stylish, laid-back place with oceanfront dining. We only stayed for lunch, as using the sunbeds and pool required an extra fee.

Best beaches to visit in Uluwatu

Melasti Beach

Tucked away in the south of Uluwatu, Melasti Beach is a real gem, exactly what you want for families. The waves break further out, leaving the shoreline calm, it’s shallow and clean, so perfect for little kids to splash around safely. You’ll find a mix of laid-back local warungs and a few stylish beach clubs, giving you plenty of options for food and drinks. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available to rent for just a few euros, and local women often sell beach toys right on the sand — a nice touch if you’re visiting with kids.

The gentle entry into the water and minimal coral make it easy to enjoy without worry. And that stunning cliff backdrop? It gives the whole beach a dreamy, almost unreal feel. There’s a small entrance fee (just over €1), and it’s well worth it.

Melasti Beach

Bingin Beach

Tucked beneath Uluwatu’s dramatic cliffs, you will find Bingin Beach, known for its waves, laid-back vibe, and great views. It’s a bit of a climb down, so don’t bring a stroller, use a carrier instead for the little ones. But once you reach the beach, you’ll find yourself in a stunning setting surrounded by charming local warungs. Surfers love this beach for its consistent waves, while we simply settled down to soak up the sun and enjoy a fresh coconut.

Bingin Beach

Padang Padang Beach

This beach is also a great choice with kids, although it’s not stroller-friendly since you need to walk down a short path where you pass through a narrow gap between rocks. What I always like when going to the beach with kids is that you can at least get drinks and snacks. This beach has a few warungs that sell snacks, drinks, and fresh coconuts.

Dreamland Beach

Firstly, this beach has easy access from the parking area, making it more convenient to visit with small kids. The only thing to keep in mind is that the waves can get rough, so it’s not ideal for swimming. That being said, there’s plenty of sand and lots of space to play, just keep an eye on them. You’ll also find some warungs, beach chairs, and a few restaurants nearby for snacks and refreshments.

What are the best activities for kids in Uluwatu?

Kecak Dance

After spending the day at Melasti Beach, you have the chance to witness a powerful, fun and local spectacle, the Kecak Dance, at the cliffside open-air amphitheater. As the sun sets behind the cliffs, a big group of men come together in a circle, moving to the rhythm of nothing but their own voices. There are no instruments, just the raw energy of human sound and firelight. It’s a unique blend of storytelling, tradition, and atmosphere, a cultural experience that’s is great to watch with kids.

Info: Buy your tickets at the official counter right by the venue. The show runs from 6 PM to 7 PM. Prices are between 6-8 euro for adults.

Pemuteran – 4 days

If you would like to avoid the crowds and find rural, tranquil areas, then Pemuteran is the right choice. Located in the northwest of Bali, it is known for its stunning natural beauty, peaceful atmosphere, coral reefs, and excellent diving spots. From Denpasar, it typically takes around 3 to 5 hours to reach Pemuteran by car, depending on traffic. Pemuteran is less touristy, allowing you to experience a more authentic side of Bali. You can also explore temples and local markets that offer deeper insight into Balinese culture and traditions.

The resort is close to a special project that helps regrow coral reefs, allowing guests to snorkel among vibrant coral reefs just steps away from the resort. So be sure to bring your snorkeling gear, or buy some at a nearby local supermarket, since spotting colorful fish is guaranteed!

You don’t have to leave the hotel to enjoy activities, as they organize tours including diving, snorkeling, dolphin watching, temple visits, trekking, cooking classes and bird watching. Plus, you can enjoy delicious meals at the on-site restaurants. Book here!

Taman Sari Resort and Spa – We normally prefer eating out, but when a hotel offers food and you’re traveling with small kids, it really comes in handy. The hotel’s beachfront restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, offering international, continental, and local Balinese cuisine. In my opinion, it’s not the best food, but good enough.

Warungs – There are few Warungs close to the hotel where you can litterly get super tasty local dishes for cheap prices. Warung Rama Pemuteran, Warung Kadek Merry and Warung Setia are worth your while.

The Sage The great thing about this area is that you’ll find many local warungs instead of trendy spots. However, The Sage, located in the center, offers a wide variety of healthy dishes, with plenty of vegan and vegetarian options. It has a cozy atmosphere and friendly staff.

Taman Sari’s tour desk makes exploring Bali easy and stress-free, even with kids. They can help you organize great tours at affordable prices, whether you’re interested in diving, dolphin watching, visiting temples, or just discovering the local area. Whatever you’re into, they’ll take care of the details so you can just enjoy the day.

Sanur 7 – days

If there’s one place in Bali I would recommend for families with small children, it’s Sanur. This peaceful coastal town offers something magical that no other place on the island can match. First of all, you can easily stay here long-term without needing a car or scooter, perfect for families with small kids and strollers. Sanur has a 5-kilometer-long paved beachfront path for people on foot and bicycles, where you can safely take long strolls with your little ones. The beach itself is very shallow, with almost no waves, making it perfect for swimming! There are plenty of amazing beachfront restaurants where you can relax while your kids play on the beach.

Andaz Bali

Where to start… Andaz Bali was everything we wished for. It was by far the best experience we’ve had traveling with kids. We were only supposed to stay for a few nights, but we ended up extending our stay much longer, because it was just that good. Everything about this resort is designed with families and children in mind. The design of the rooms is beautiful, the beds are incredibly comfortable, and the views are amazing. Housekeeping came daily, leaving the room spotless with fresh water, complimentary drinks from the minibar, and snacks restocked every day.

There are three main pools: the beachfront infinity pool (Liang), a kid-friendly pool (Alit), and a peaceful adults-only pool (Santhi) tucked away in the gardens. There’s also a kids’ club, a spa, a gym, and several on-site restaurants that serve truly exceptional food. And the breakfast? On another level! Every morning, we actually looked forward to it, it was that delicious and varied. And lastly, the staff, what a team! Every single person we interacted with was kind, helpful, and genuinely warm, especially our kids. They made us feel welcome from the first moment to the last. It comes with a price, but it was well worth it!

Brasserie République – Stepping into Brasserie République feels like walking into a little corner of Paris. With its classic French décor and cozy charm, it’s a surprising gem in Sanur. We didn’t expect much, but the food blew us away, so much that we came back twice. The beef carpaccio, escargots, pâté, and steak were all so tastful. The staff are warm, welcoming, and great with kids, making it a relaxed spot for families who love good food.

Sate Babi Pantai Karang Sanur – Try some of the tastiest sate babi you’ll ever have. You can taste the care and experience in every bite!

Before traveling to Bali with young kids, we weren’t sure what to expect. Would it be too hectic? Too adventurous for the little ones? Too busy and warm? But from the moment we arrived, Bali surprised us in the best possible way.

There’s something truly special about how the island blends warmth, nature, culture, and comfort. The Balinese people are the most incredibly kind and welcoming toward children, and we constantly felt supported, whether we were in a hotel, a café, or simply walking down the street.
