
BEST CHRISTMAS MARKETS NETHERLANDS
Ok, we are more the sunny-palmtrees-beach-types, BUT we loooove the Christmas season and anything that has anything to do with it. Yep, we can already smell the glühwein, and hot chocolate and hear Mariah’s All I Want For Christmas blasting from the speakers. With many Christmas markets and events canceled last year, it’s time to check out what’s happening in 2022/2023.
We did a little research for you so you don’t have to. These are by far the best Christmas Events in the Netherlands happening this year!
Christmas City Valkenburg – 18th Nov – 8th of Jan, Valkenburg
Probably the cutest town in the South of the Netherlands that’s being transformed into a winter wonderland. You can even stroll down into the unique Christmas caves. Imagine 1000 lights, miniature villages that go on and on, live Christmas music, food and stalls. Kids will love it too as there are plenty of events happening. Castle Christmas Fair – 17th – 20st of November, Velsen
This is one of the winter markets we are looking forward to the most! Besides the usual Christmas stalls, this market is set at the historical premises of Beeckestijn Castle in Velsen. This makes it one of the most unique locations and we are so happy it’s back on this year. There is a small entrance fee for this Christmas market from €6,50 for kids and €14,75 for adults. castlechristmasfair.nl
Country & Christmas Fair – 23rd – 28th of November, Utrecht
Needless to say that a Christmas market or fair held at a castle like this location, has to be amazing. On location at the stunning Van Haar Castle in Haarzuilens, will be around 240 Christmas stalls where you can buy about anything. It will be open until 10PM at night so you can enjoy the many Christmas lights, which is one of the reasons this fair is over 22 years old! Besides, there will be a watershow with lights, a Moulin Rouge mirror tent for beers and snacks. For kids there is a treasure hunt and lot’s of food they will undoubtedly love. Tickets are available from €11 for evening to €17,50 for daytickets.
Haarlem Christmas Market – 9th & 11th Dec, Haarlem
This market has been voted as one of 5 best Christmas Markets in the Netherlands so it’s a must visit! On the main square next to the ‘Grote Kerk’ you will find many stands with crafts, food, gifts and of course hot drinks. Besides the market, you can also stroll around Haarlem city and discover the many boutique shops and cafe’s.
Royal Christmas Fair – 8th – 23rd of December, Den Haag
The Royal Christmas Fair is one of the first Christmas markets to be announced at an early stage. The Christmas market is very spacious, something that comes in handy during these Covid times. This Christmas Market will take place on the Lange Voorhout during this 7th edition. It will consists of at least 100 Christmas stalls, thousands of lights and enough to eat and drink while enjoying the crackling wood from the fire pits. royalchristmasfair.nl
Christmas Winter Fair – 15th of Dec – 1st of Jan, Amsterdam Rai
This will be the 3rd edition and the largest Christmas Fair Amsterdam has seen. The Amsterdam Winter Parade exists of different winter ‘worlds’. For example, there will be a Wintersquare which will be the meeting place where cake and warm drinks can be enjoyed while walking across the Christmas market. There will be a large outside Fair with a 50 meters high ferris wheel and circus theatre. Sunday Market Funky Christmas Edition – 19th December, Amsterdam
Every 1st Sunday of the month you will find the Sunday Market at the Westergas area in Amsterdam. The Christmas edition is by far the best one because it get’s you right in the Christmas spirit! Here you’ll find many local products by local craftsmen, tasty food and hot drinks!
