04 Apr 10X BEST LUNCH SPOTS IN VENLO
Venlo may be tucked away in the far southeast of The Netherlands, but you will be surprised about its trendy and tasty hotspots. After some extensive research (someone has to do it), we created the ultimate foodie list in Venlo for you.
Here are 10 amazing lunch spots in Venlo you want to know about. Save them for later y’all!
Bij de Buren, Keizerstraat 6
First on the list and not without reason! Bij De Buren is wonderful is many ways. First of all, they are located in the cutest and most hidden street of Venlo; De Keizerstraat. When it’s sunny you can sit outside, next to the church. Secondly, the restaurant has a joined door that leads into the coolest record store in Venlo; Sounds. Therefore it’s no surprise they use Vinyl record covers for the menu, pretty cool! But most of all, the food is amazing! You have many options from a traditional lunch, to a menu full of tapas. We tried some of everything and it certainly didn’t disappoint.
Mocca Coffee Company, Oude Markt 3
If you’re searching for THE most instagramable hotspot in Venlo, this is the place to go. To give you an idea; you’ll find velvet seats, a colourful mural display, neon lights and dishes that asked to be photographed. It’s also the only spot in Venlo that offers chicken and waffles, an American (breakfast) dish that has taken Europe by storm over the years. Mind you, the food isn’t just pretty, it actually tastes very good. Save this one!
Café BLVD, Werf 3
Both wonderful during colder days and when the sun shines. Their tropical outside terrace is certainly what makes BLVD one of the best lunch spots in Venlo. With palm trees and white seats it reminds us of a trendy hotspot in Ibiza. When we tried their dishes we ordered tempura crispy rolls, Tom Kha Gai soup, a chicken sandwich and Cesar salad. It tasted as good as it looks and we even took a doggy bag home to enjoy later!
BLVD is a great place for when the sun’s out!
Eddy’s Steaks ‘n Sushi, Oude markt 8
Its name may sound like this is just your ordinary steakhouse, but don’t be fooled. This place is wonderful and a great meeting place for friends. Both their sushi options and meat dishes are of high quality. They serve a lot of different food, so you can take about anyone to this restaurant. The restaurant used to be called Motown and therefore you can find all the Motown heroes painted on the walls and ceiling. TIP: go for the the colourful sushi rolls! (You get 8 massive pieces).
Grenswerk Café, Peperstraat 10
This one is for music lovers! Because they are located next to Poppodium Grenswerk, where they throw concerts and dance parties. It’s the place to be before or after a concert, but we also found it to be a great place for coffee and they have a kids corner so a great option for parents that want to enjoy their lunch. The staff — like all places mentioned in this list, is wonderful and they have a large terrace, perfect for summer days and evenings.
Grenswerk Café has a huge outside terrace!
Milk and Cookies, Parade 64
We haven’t been inside, simply because they were packed with guests everyday. This tells us that the Milk and Cookies are gooood, right? Come here especially for cakes, juices, coffee and it wouldn’t be in our list if they didn’t serve a good lunch. You can bet on a good coffee here but reserve a spot for lunch if you don’t want to miss out.
Great for breakfast and lunch. Milk and Cookies, Venlo
Brasserie de Witte, Parade 28
Our secret hidden tip in Venlo! Walk too fast past the entrance and you will miss it. Located on the Parade, it looks like a simple brown café when you first walk inside. But continue up the stairs and a bright room will enchant you! Brasserie de Witte offers a wonderful High Tea but also lunch, brunch and dinner. LIKE: they support the no-waste trend and also use the “ugly” ingredients such as weird looking carrots and cucumbers. Besides that, we love the look of this pretty location. Don’t tell everyone ok?

STEK, Begijnengang 2
STEK is the place to meet, to connect and to have lunch! Whether you’re looking for a great place to work, study, read or stare out of the window. As they say; We like to make you happy as a guest with good coffee, tasty and healthy food and a big smile :). Oh, they also serve amazing poké and smoothie bowls and enough options for those with special dietary requirements.
Bonaparte Venlo, Parade 39
Famous for their chicken from the spit! During the famous Carnaval period here in Venlo, this grand café is always full of people, in and outside! They offer classics like a club sandwich, tosti or a Dutch “uitsmijter but also a pita with pulled chicken or the veggie option. It may not be the trendiest of places here but locals, tourists, parents with young children, everyone comes here!
Café de Klep, Keizerstraat 13
Last but not least is this special café. Located next to Bij de Buren, they have a rather special story on how they got their name. Klep is named after the traditional lid (which we call Klep) on the beer glass. Next to that “kleppen” also means drinking in the dialect used in Venlo. In Café de Klep you can find these special beer glasses in all shapes and sizes. Obviously you can order a variety of beers, but they also serve a wonderful lunch with soups, salad and sandwiches with plenty of vegetarian options. A big plus in their large beer garden next to the church.
Bonus: MOUT
Soon to open is MOUT, a food hall where eight different kitchen will offer their flavours. It is expected that they will open their doors mid-springtime! Keep an eye out for this one!
As seen above, Venlo has many great lunch spots! Let us know which ones are your favourite once you pay this wonderful city a visit!

Hartelijke groet,
