The best cafes for breakfast and lunch in Ahangama
If there is one thing that Ahangama does well, is the up-and-coming coffee and brunch scene. Cafes big and small are popping up all over town. Here are our top recommendations:
- Kaffi Ahangama – A cute cafe with a laid back vibe and garden at the beach front to hang out at. Very tasty pastries too!
- Marshmellow cafe – THE hotspot in Ahangama that you probably already heard about for coffee, breakfast and lunch while lounging on the deck watching the waves.
- UFO Coffee Shop – Good coffee, good vibes, good view.
- The Kip – Our personal favorite. Here you can put together your own brunch plate by choosing small plates from the menu! The place is hidden in the jungle and also serves as a boutique hotel. thekipsrilanka.com
- Kai Ahangama – Go here if you prefer beach club vibes and enjoy the ocean view from the rooftop.
- On Set – Want to get away from the crowds? Craving some tranquility in a cozy cafe in the jungle, surrounded by birds, and with the aroma of delicious coffee? This is your go-to place.
- Fruit Cafe – Small, cozy cafe with great vegan brunch options!
The best restaurants for dinner in Ahangama
Many brunch hotspots listed above also serve dinner. However, below we’ve listed a few other standout restaurants that are perfect for your evening cravings.
- Townhouse – Here you get THE best curry as well as other authentic Sri Lankan dishes! It is a small restaurant with a nice, minimalistic interior. Traditional food within a modern setting, lovely combo!
- Le Café French Bistro – While this place serves a very good brunch as well, we enjoyed a delicious dinner here. It is a quiet, small, and bit tucked away place at the beach front. We sat on cushions on the ground with a small table. Here you can enjoy the French cuisine, as well as some great pasta options. Oh, and you can enjoy some great wine!
- Mangrove kitchen – This is a local restaurant tucked away behind the train tracks that really is a hidden gem. We love authentic places like these, which are a big contrast to the hip, fancy spots (which we, of course, also really enjoy from time to time).
- Manori’s Kitchen – Another great authentic restaurant serving traditional dishes.
- POPEYE BEACH – Located on the beach, you eat here while your feet are in the sand. Nothing fancy, just a chill atmosphere. We enjoyed a nice chicken masala here!
- Coco Kitchen – Highly rated restaurant with a nice interior at the beach front serving traditional as well as western dishes. Also serving brunch and cocktails!
The best bars for drinks
Ahangama knows a very lively nightlife. On the beachfront you find many places to enjoy a drink and a good sunset. But there is more! Below, you’ll find our top picks to be after dinner:
- Lamana – One of the most famous places for a drink at night. Go here on Thursdays and Sundays evenings: a skate jam is happening in the backyard with skateboarders showing of their skills in the skate bowl.
- TRAX – We LOVED this place. Hidden away in the jungle with many cozy seatings, live music and dj sets. Perfect place to enjoy a cocktail if you ask us.
- Hotel De Uncles – This bar is situated right at the beach with a nice deck to enjoy a beautiful sunset. They also serve brunch, but their drinks are top tier!
- Ceylon Sliders – Also a nice place at the beach front with a nice deck to enjoy a beautiful sunset, but a bit more fancy (and more expensive). Also has a nice concept store where you can score nice souvenirs.
- Kai Ahangama – We also listed this place as a nice brunch spot, however, don’t skip this place in the evening if you fancy a beach club vibe on a roof top.
