10X BEST SPOTS TO EAT IN COPENHAGEN (2025)

Across the entire city you’ll find trendy restaurants, cozy Nordic bistros, and vibrant lunch cafés. From traditional Danish Smørrebrød to International fusion concepts, Copenhagen’s restaurants satisfy every craving and suit any dining occasion. There’s no doubt that you can eat incredibly well in this Danish city. Here are some of our favorite places to eat in Copenhagen.

Best spots to eat in Copenhagen

Now, if you’ve never been to Copenhagen before, you’re in for a treat when it comes to food. Like Amsterdam, Paris, and Barcelona, this city had so many great restaurants and cafés to choose from. Luckily, I’m a foodie, and I like to try new places. Add a dash of style, and simply good ingredients, and you have a great hotspot. So what makes a great spot to eat in Copenhagen?

  • Great ambiance, stylish interior
  • A place you want to come back to
  • Dishes that make you pause for a second
  • Friendly and helpful staff

Ø12

Address: H. C. Andersens Boulevard 8, Vesterbro & Øster Farimagsgade 12B, Østerbro

One of those places that has quickly become a favorite among locals and visitors alike. We can certainly see why. Ø12 Coffee & Eatery is a delightful café that offers delicious nourishing comfort food. Their menu offers refined brunch classics such as shakshuka (which we can highly recommend), avocado smash, eggs benedict and pancakes. All prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients. For many dishes, you can also customize with extra ingredients of your choice, such as feta or halloumi. As coffee lovers, you definitely won’t want to miss this spot for a top-quality cup of coffee.

Whether you’re starting your day with a hearty breakfast or taking a leisurely brunch, Ø12 offers a charming and welcoming ambience. Natural furniture, filled with plants and very friendly staff.

Esmée

Address: Kongens Nytorv 8, København K

If you’re looking to treat yourself (and your partner) to an exceptional dining experience, Esmée is one of our top choices. The moment you step into this restaurant, its stylish interior immediately grabs your attention. With marble surfaces, thick curtains, cozy couches and lush greenery throughout. Esmée’s menu offers a blend of modern French brasserie-style cuisine with Nordic influences. The (open) kitchen focuses on high-quality, seasonal ingredients, creating dishes that are both elegant and full (!) of flavor.

Some of my highlights include “Esmée signature’’ ceviche, oysters with fresh wasabi, ginger oil & finger lime. Perfectly cooked seafood like their vongole risotto and their grilled tenderloin served with a truffle béarnaise. Oh, and make sure to save room for their yummy Burnt Basque Cheesecake. Beyond the incredible flavors, each dish is also beautifully presented. A must-visit for food (& design) lovers!

Sokkelund

Address: Smallegade 36, 2000 Frederiksberg

Not necessarily one of the city’s trendy hotspots, but definitely a place worth sharing for its authentic local charm. Nestled in the heart of Frederiksberg, Sokkelund is a beloved neighborhood brasserie that has become an integral part of the community and we truly enjoyed being part of it. We highly recommend stopping by for a relaxed breakfast or lunch on a laid-back Sunday.

Sokkelund’s menu offers a diverse selection of dishes, from traditional Danish rye bread specialties to international favorites. Whether you’re in the mood for a rich Croque Monsieur or Madame, a generously filled omelet or a hearty lunch featuring beef tartare, shrimp, or roast beef, there’s something for every craving.

THE UNION KITCHEN

Address: Store Strandstræde 21, City & Øster Farimagsgade 16A, Østerbro

The Union Kitchen captures that neighborhood vibe, offering a local hangout spot. It’s a casual eatery perfect for a laid-back lunch or a relaxed shared dinner experience. We absolutely loved their shared options, which include both meat and vegetarian dishes. It’s tough to choose, but their warm and welcoming staff are happy to offer recommendations. We would suggest not to miss their slow-roasted tomatoes with za’atar & whipped feta, the Stracciatella di burrata, and a variety of flavorful meatballs. Definitely try the Moroccan lamb balls or Thai chicken balls. Pair these with a selection from their curated wine list, a handcrafted cocktail, or one of their own brewed beers served in a cool The Union Kitchen’s branded mug.

We really like their brick walls, wooden tables, and industrial lamps that create a cozy yet stylish vibe. The music, mainly old-school R&B classics, adds to the nostalgic atmosphere, giving the place a cool, retro touch. theunionkitchen.dk

Aamanns Replik

Address: Sankt Annæ Plads 36, København K

We can guarantee you that this is the place to go to try some of the most outstanding traditional Danish smørrebrød (open sandwiches). Aamanns is renowned for reinventing the classic Danish smørrebrød by prioritizing exceptional taste and high-quality, organic and seasonal ingredients. Their unexpected elements and innovative flavor combinations are outstanding.

A glimpse of their menu (all served on smørrrebrød): Hand peeled shrimp, egg, lemon emulsion, kaffir lime, Brussels sprouts. Their beetroot, cheese, buckwheat, tarragon and walnuts.  We can assure you that the freshness of their ingredients is enough to make your mouth water. The staff recommend us to also enjoy their traditional dessert: ‘Pålægschokolademad’. It’s a little hard to describe in detail but it includes ingredients like chocolate, chocolate spread and oranges. Finger licking good!

Aamanns Replik is a stylish and modern restaurant located inside the historic Danish Royal Playhouse. We loved the interior blend of Scandinavian minimalism with warm touches such as wooden furniture, cozy sheep rugs, brass accents, and a lot of natural daylight. Last but not least: The restaurant’s panoramic harbor views make this place even more a must visit.

La Bachina

Address: Refshalevej 141, København

Just before you get to Reffen, you will see a very small, but hidden gem in Copenhagen named La Bachina. This café only offers a few seats inside, but outside you can relax by the waterfront and is a favourite by locals. Perfect to cool off on a hot summers day and drinks with friends. They offer breakfast, lunch, dinner, wine, beers and coffee.

Camino

Address: Høkerboderne 16B, meatpacking

Go here for your dinner date! Camino is located in the Meatpacking District which is worth a visit anyhow. This area is surrounded by bars, clubs, and other restaurants. The pretty and cozy decor compliments the food, although we heard that service can be a bit off. Personally, we experienced a lovely night, with tasty food, and good wine.

Banegaarden – hidden gem in Copenhagen

Not one restaurant, but many! This little oasis in the city sits near the railroad tracks, so you need to walk a bit to get there, but it’s worth it. In total, about 9 different cafés and restaurants are nestled here. A green oasis, ecological village, peaceful haven and gastronomic center. Whatever you call it, Banegaarden sits far away from the hustle and bustle of the big city, yet right in the middle of it. Café Perron makes its own pastries and crusty sandwiches worth trying. Check their agenda, as they organize many events, and pop-up dinners. Go here for more hidden gems in Copenhagen.

Reffen

Walk a bit further past Bachina, and you’ll come to Reffen, a place where food, music and drinks come together. Don’t expect high-end dishes, but many different foodtrucks from all over the world. It’s located by the water, so amazing on a sunny day. They are open from March till October. reffen.dk
