During the Christmas period, all you want is to get together with your family, enjoy lavish dinners and celebrate New Year’s Eve with a bunch of friends. On the other hand, sometimes we want the opportunity to escape to a hotel or cozy accommodation. And we have just found the perfect place for unwinding.

In the middle of the Zuid-Kennemerland National Park, you’ll find a beautiful forest villa named Bosvilla Kennemerduinen. Located near IJmuiden and completely private, this unique accommodation deserves a spot in our Off the Beaten Track section.

Last summer, we stayed at the wonderful Maris Apartments twice, located in Egmond aan Zee. We discovered that Bosvilla Kennemerduinen is in fact owned by the same people… this could only be good news. But let’s talk about this forest villa itself. The house dates back from the 1800’s and was mainly used as a hunting house and horse owners from the area.

After a huge renovation and different owners, Bosvilla Kennemerduinen eventually re-opened for hire in 2019. The house accommodates up to 10 people and if you want you can even bring your dog, as long as they are well behaved of course ;-).

Plenty of room

In total, there are three bedrooms of which all ensuite. The “master” bedroom also has an extra bed option and for small children. Ask for a camping bed or baby cot should you need one. On a whole, the house has a classic country house style, with two fireplaces to make things cozy during the winter season. The spacious living room and dining room are lovely, but our favourite place is the closed veranda overlooking the large garden. Perfect for reading a book, or just overthinking your plans for the new year.

Side note: If you want to share the house with your parents but you are a little worried about COVID, there is a separate small house next to the villa, which has been transformed into a bedroom with its own modern bathroom.

In order to get the full experience of Bosvilla Kennemerduinen, you should arrive with a shopping bag full of groceries and use the the fully equipped kitchen. It has everything you will need; a Boretti stove with oven, a large refrigerator, dishwasher, washing machine, cooker (for instant boiling water) and a Nespresso coffee machine. During summertime, you can use the outside kitchen and BBQ.

Surroundings

In the first place, you are surrounded by trees so waking up at Bosvilla Kennemerduinen is unique. From the villa it’s only a short drive or bicycle ride to the beach. IJmuiden beach is nearest but if you want to visit Bloemendaal aan Zee you can cycle there in approximately 30 minutes. Furthermore, you can visit nearby villages such as Santpoort, Driehuis or Bloemendaal.
