26 Mar CABIN ANNA | SLEEPING IN A MAGICAL FOREST CABIN
From all the places we’ve stayed at during our years of traveling, this unique accommodation has made it to our top five. Cabin Anna takes you Off Grid in the Netherlands and we miss it already.
The story of Cabin ANNA
It all started from the idea of getting closer to nature. With our busy lives and our always on approach, it’s necessary to take a step back. With this one of a kind cabin, you can now experience this. Due to its unique design, you can move the outer layer, roof and walls of the cabin, transforming into a glasshouse. Take it one step further and open the glasshouse, so you’ll find the bedroom in the middle of nature, an amazing feeling.
In total, there are seven cabin’s in the Netherlands. One at the Biesbosch (since 2023), and you can find six cabin ANNA’s at Glamping Hartje Groen in Holenberg. Did you know you can order and buy your own Cabin ANNA? There is a long waiting list, but just saying…
Waking up to the sound of birds, with the morning sun touching my face
Hartje Groen, Holenberg
We stayed at Hartje Groen in Holenberg, about 1,5 drive from Amsterdam. This small but cozy glamping has 6 ANNA cabins, a couple of tipi’s and space for tents and campervans. Our cabin was called Ulex and is located on a very private part of their grounds – this is the same for all the cabins. This way you can really enjoy the sounds of nature, and walk around in your birthday suit if you feel like it. All cabin’s feature a small kitchen, a large shower, and a bathtub hidden in the wooden floor. If the weather allows it, do open the glasshouse so you can enjoy that morning sunshine whilst you laying in the comfortable bed.
Everything inside cabin ANNA has been thought of; a coffee grinder with fresh coffee beans, wood for the fireplace, fresh fruit, tea, towels, you name it. Breakfast is served in a basket which they drop into a box next to your cabin around 08:30. Gosh, cherish those mornings if you can, their magical.
Where to eat
There are quite a few options around the area, and we visited a few. Here are our favourites:
De Boshut, Hartje Groen
In just a few steps you walk towards De Boshut, two large wooden houses where they serve food and drinks from 10 till 5pm. It’s super cosy and there is a large outside terrace. People from outside Hartje Groen can also visit this restaurant.
Bomenpark
If you want a more luxurious meal, with fresh and good ingredients, go for Bomenpark in Heesch. From your cabin, it’s only about 12 minutes by car. Overlooking the waterfront, this is a romantic spot, but also a favourite with families and friends. Suitable for all diets and they even served glutenfree bread!
De Notaris
This restaurant/café is what the Dutch would call “gezellig”! A no nonsense menu with a few vegetarian options, decent wine, and friendly staff. It’s buzzing on the weekends, so book a table in advance.
Things to do
Again, plenty of options, but we found that we didn’t want to plan too many activities because cabin ANNA is just too good to leave. So we stayed in bed until noon, and walked through the forest. Nevertheless, these are our tips.
Oerkoken at cabin ANNA
Cook your own meal! And although you can cook inside your cabin, we don’t mean it like that. Just infront of your cabin, you’ll find a place where you can cook your meal on an open fire. Make a beautiful stew from scratch. You can book this activity once you’ve booked your cabin at Hartje Groen.
Discover De Maashorst
This national Park is a wonderful place to get lost in. Smell the trees, walk. There is also a children’s path with obstacles and close to a small lake where kids can play. Hartje Groen is located in the middle of this National Park, so you walk straight into it.
Visit nearby towns Uden or Nijmegen
Depending if you want to drive to a city and escape the quietness of the forest (we can’t imagine), there are options to do so. Nijmegen is a nice city with historical features and museums and is about 35 minutes away. Uden is a bit closer if you want to go shopping.
You can find prices and availability on the website of Cabin ANNA. Go book this place, it’s worth it.
