03 Nov Generator Hostel Amsterdam opens The Oosterbar
When the Generator Hostel in Amsterdam opened, we had a hangover for days. Meaning, it was good fun! One of the areas where we danced all night, was a bar in the basement of the building that included a beautiful refurbished bar. Well, this bar opens to the public this Saturday! Friday and Saturday nights are for the Oosterbar.
Oosterbar is a new nightly bar in Amsterdam East where you can mingle and drink cocktails until the early hours. A clever concept because Amsterdam East is really the place to be at the moment. New concepts, hotels and restaurants are opening up by the month and attracting a young hip crowd. Oosterbar is trying to cater to this target group by opening up their doors.

The Bar
The building where Oosterbar is situated used to be a University of Health studies and was build back in 1908. Now it’s used as the new Generator Hostel and open to travelers around the world that love a hostel kind of vibe but also prefer the services and cleanness of a hotel. (see our article aboput Poshtels) The bar itself has an Berlin vibe to it with industrial features. They’ve kept some of the original design features such as the white metro tiles and historical window frames. The bar can hold 180 people and is perfect for a party. The warm old-fashioned light bulbs behind the industrial bar put down a nice contrast. Located in the basement where no disturbances may encounter, Oosterbar is the place to let your hair loose. Even the world’s largest online music platform Boiler Room has curated here.
Music
Oosterbar offers regular programming on Friday and Saturday, and one-off performances. The night bar is proud of her city and therefore mainly put local DJs behind the decks, with a monthly visit to international artists. On Friday they play soulful music, from hip hop to R & B and funk & soul to bass and on Saturday you can expect electronic music: house, tech, soul and deep house. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for events and parties.
