I was born in Utrecht, a vibrant student city in the middle of The Netherlands.
People call it small Amsterdam but locals would prefer to call their city a cozy medieval old town with canals, monuments and a good university.
I moved to Amsterdam about 7 years ago but I love coming back to Utrecht when I get the chance. Lot’s of new restaurants (especially for great lunch) and coffee bars are popping up by the month. There’s one place I had never been before even though they already have 3 locations. I’m talking about The Village.

Coffee in all sorts

The village has been around for a couple of years already so it’s not the newest hotspot but certainly one of the coolest. Like mentioned before, they have 3 locations of which one is located in the old jail of Utrecht. Pretty cool right?
At this location they also serve lunch and dinner but what makes them extra special is the in-house bakery and distillery.
Once every fortnight, they offer a 5 course meal for 37,50 with a theme that changes every now and then.

The Village at the wolvenplein is located in an old jail.

The other locations are in the voorstraat which is pretty central and a popular hangout for coffee and music lovers.
Tip » It’s great for coffee and relax with friends but not the best place to work as they don’t offer WIFI.
Their 3rd location is at the science park which is a little bit more out of town.
Music is an important part of the Village with several music events on their calendar and art on their walls. (which you can buy!)
They have even won the title for the best coffee bar of Utrecht 2013 so that’s something they can be proud of.
