We are all familiar with the word staycation right now, and we have another great staycation-tip in The Netherlands for you! This time in beautiful Twente.

To be honest, we had never been to this side of the country before and it was about time. Located in the Dutch countryside of Twente, is a beautiful place to enjoy the ultimate staycation by the name of Landgoed de Holtweijde.

The estate has 77 suites, of which 6 cottages (perfect for young families), 29 landhouse suites – most of them overlooking the Dutch countryside. With a little luck you will see the occasional deer, as hares and deer running through the field. A number of the Country House Suites are located on the edge of our estate. These have been appropriately named “Landhuis Suites with reezicht”! I stayed in one of their eighteen Royal Suites in the hotel building, of which each has its unique features. That being said, each suite has a livingroom, balcony with relaxing chairs, mini bar, a fireplace for cozy winter days and a spacious bathroom. If you want to book the most romantic spot on the estate, check out the “Bosuil“. This is a cottage located 300 meters away from the estate entrance and is completely private. It features a comfortable kingsize bed and a French champagne breakfast is included when you book this!

Wellness & Food

Full the full relaxation package I booked a massage in their wellness where the choice in treatments are endless. Many people actually come to the estate and book a wellness package! You can also go for a swim in their big pool which includes massage bubbles (yes please) and due to Covid, you can currently book your spot at reception with a maximum of two suites, so there is space enough! The fitness area will re-open in August.

Now, let’s talk about food. Not all hotel restaurants are great, but the restaurant at Holtweijde offers a pretty high standard dinner and lunch menu. Their chefs menu is seasonal and if you are vegetarian (like me), they can accommodate your needs.

Unique Location

But one of the best things about Landhouse de Holtweijde has to be its location. Surrounded by nature, you can walk or cycle the most beautiful routes or visit various nature parks. Not to mention the cute historic town of Oostmarsum, only 10 minutes away by car. Here you can endlessly stroll the streets and shop in one of the many galleries Oostmarsum is known for. And if you’re not looking to buy art, there are plenty of restaurants and cafes.

Drive a little further (or rent a bicycle at Landhouse de Holtweijde), you should definitely pay a visit to Theehuis Dennenoord. Find your inner Alice and choose from more than 50 tea’s and various cakes. For the full experience you should book a high tea and check out their shop before you leave. My favourite? Their cupido tea, a Rooibos tea with apple and almonds.
