14 Nov LE BARN – A CITY ESCAPE NEAR PARIS
Escape to the French countryside, and find out where the Parisians go for the weekends! We stayed at Le Barn, a beautiful country estate, just 45 minutes away from Paris.
Le Barn – A city Escape
A city escape, it’s a term we hear more often these days. People love living in the city, but they would like a break from the hustle and bustle once in a while. If you live in Paris for instance, Le Barn is only a 45 minute drive or trainride away. But even if you live in Amsterdam, you can take the Eurostar, and commute your way into the French countryside easy and sustainable. Get off at Paris du Gare Nord, take the local train to Rambouillet, and from there you need to crab a taxi which get take you to Le Barn within 15 minutes or so. It’s also the perfect stop for a roadtrip through France, or to combine with Paris.

The story about Le Barn
Le Barn is nestled in Haute Vallée de Chevreuse Regional Natural Park, and is more than a hotel. Certainly, it’s a wonderful place to rest your head, but it’s also a restaurant, a spa, vegetable garden and experience. You don’t have to do anything, but you can do a lot! Upon arrival, you get to a large gate – that opens the door to a place of serenity, open fields, horses, and fresh air.
Paris is only 45 km away but never seemed so far away…
Back in 2018 when Le Barn first opened, a dream of owners Edouard Daehn and William Kriegel was realized. They’ve opted for a sustainable approach, using natural materials, cooking with seasonal products, and making their own compost. During the weekend you will see families at Le Barn, during the week it’s more quiet, with travelers, but also businesses come here for meetings or seminars.
French Gastronomy
We know food is love in France, and at Le Barn you are reminded of that. Carefully selected cheeses, wines, meat, poultry and organic vegetables, some from their own vegetable garden. People from all over the place come to lunch or dine at restaurant La Serre, underneath the glass – together with a cozy fireplace. Food here is seasonal, so fresh and you can taste it. I’ve never eaten so many well prepared vegetables in those days when I stayed at Le Barn. We don’t even need to mention the baguettes, as you already know the amazing quality when you see them.
Delicious and nutricious food at Le Barn
During the winter months, they host special weekends, evenings. Enjoy typical French cheese fondue, drink warming red wines or hot chocolate, treat yourself to a blanket.
Heavenly Rooms
In total Le Barn has classic, deluxe rooms and suites, which are divided into 2 buildings on the premises. All of which have a view of something lush and green. At night it’s quiet, in the morning you are awaken by the sounds of nature – horses, frogs, birds. Beds are large and comfortable, we loved the minimalistic, yet homely design of the room. Fresh tea, organic coffee, vintage paintings and photo’s complete the space.
Surroundings
It’s clear that you’ll find yourself in the middle of the French countryside, so there are plenty of ways to explore. You can grab a free bicycle from Le Barn and ride past the fields, through the villages, or even the forest. At the reception you can ask about the different options, but we loved this one: an evening mountain-bike ride in the forest – with deer night viewing. If you love horses, your dreams will be fulfilled as Le Barn is situated next to Haras de la Cense, a large horse stable where they practice ethology – a man to horse relationship.
Spa & Yoga
After a walk or bike ride, the Le Barn spa is your best bet. They also offer massages; Thai, Swedish or Ayurvedic. Outside, there are two hottubs to relax your muscles, and inside you can experience a steam room and sauna. On many occasions you can practice free yoga sessions at Le Barn, just ask for the schedule at the reception.
So if your heading towards the South of France, or you want to combine a Paris city trip, with a few days of tranquility – Le Barn is your spot.
