30 Mar LUXURY DINNER CRUISE IN AMSTERDAM!
When you have lived in Amsterdam for so long, you often forget do join in on those typical Amsterdam-must-do’s. You may have seen the many boats cruising around the canals, but we had never enjoyed a dinner on the canals, until now.
With spring and summer knocking on the door, people in Amsterdam love to do about anything outdoors. Whether it’s sitting in the park for a picnic, enjoying one of the many outside terraces or relaxing on a boat. Have you ever thought about booking a luxury dinner cruise in Amsterdam? Well, we tried and tested it for you!
Amsterdam Boats
Obviously, Amsterdam has quite a few boat companies but we want to introduce Amsterdam Boats to you. This boat company offers 7 different boats that float around in Amsterdam. They offer different cruises for small or large groups, some with entertainment and many special requests are welcome. Most boats can open their roof, perfect for summer evenings! Tourists love going on these kind of cruises but we think it’s about time that we – the locals, also get to experience these unique dinner options. Why? Because it’s fun!
Luxury Dinner Cruise
One of their more popular offers is the Luxury Dining Cruise. This dinner cruise starts at 18:30 and takes about three hours in total. You get on at the dock near Waterloopplein and instructions will be emailed to you once booked. Right in the city centre so is easy to get to with your bicycle or public transport. Beforehand, you won’t know what kind of boat you will be dining on because of the amount of people booked on. In our case, we boarded one of their larger boats with space for about 24 guests. If you are with a larger group for a birthday party for example, you get the option to dine in one of the smaller boats with red velvet sofa’s, which will totally add to the luxury experience. Anything is possible!
The Food
Undoubtedly, the food is important so here’s our verdict. Besides the olives, crackers and nuts, you will receive a vegetarian “bitterbal” and amuse which was tasty. On the menu you can choose three different starters, mains and desserts. Both vegetarians and meat lovers will have a good choice. Our choice fell on the veggie taboulé salad for starters and seabass with risotto as a main-course.
The food is freshly prepared in a restaurant that the boat will stop at twice. This way the food will be hot and ready to eat. You can order several wines from the menu and the usual soft drinks. To be honest I felt quite full in order to finish my dessert but nevertheless went for a selection of cheeses.
The Experience
As locals we can confidently say that you haven’t really experienced Amsterdam if you haven’t cruised on the canals. Therefore we can totally imagine people wanting to combine a lovely dinner setting with a boat cruise. We liked the jazzy music playing in the background makes the place like a fancy restaurant. A little tip from us; do go outside in between the courses so you can take some photo’s and enjoy the view even more. The windows of the larger boat are quite high up, therefore we only managed to see the top of the houses and not the water. We put our phones stuck on one of the windows for a nice hyperlapse. Because dinner is served when evening falls, you will currently see the day changing into night. The lights on the canals and typical Amsterdam houses, look so wonderful.
Amsterdam by Night, cruising passed the Scheepsvaart Museum
We personally thought we would have added to the experience if the staff members wore the same blazer, just a little more fancy so there’s a food for thought. Overall we had an enjoyable evening, with tasty food and wonderful views. This Luxury Dinner Cruise is now bookable for €95,- p.p which includes an Amuse, welcome drink, 3-course menu and three hours of cruising the canals of Amsterdam.
Happy cruising!
Elke
