Is an ongoing thing in Amsterdam, new hotspots. They are like freakin’ mushrooms popping up, but you don’t hear us complaining!
We’ve selected 9 new restaurants in Amsterdam that have just opened or will open soon so you have plenty of new things to try this month!
A touch of South Africa in Amsterdam! Well almost, officially the address is located in Amstelveen, but we just had to include this one. We all know that South African cuisine – especially in Cape Town, has wonderful things to bring to the table. This brand-new restaurant in Amsterdam features 46 tables on the first floor. Including a chef’s table for 8, which offers the best view of the preparation of the culinary operations by chefs Jasper Hermans and Thomas Kooijman. In addition, SAAM restaurant has an upstairs bar with 18 spots. SAAM will be offering dishes that are a fusion between Dutch and South African cuisine, using only pure and honest ingredients. On the wine list, special attention is given to the finest wines South Africa has to offer. SAAM will open on the 15th of November from Tue – Sat between 18:00 and 22:00.
It took us a few weeks, but we finally managed to eat at the highly anticipated Nela in Amsterdam. Don’t be put off by the location – the business district of Amsterdam South. This restaurant welcomes you with delightful interior which reminds of a high class London location. The chefs – known for their impressive vendors Nobu, Izakaya, and The Dutchess (check them out for amazing high tea in Amsterdam), are cooking in an open fire kitchen. Dishes are served as a shared dining concept which include many vegetables, raw or cooked fish and a section of meat. If you are really hungry, their stone oven makes incredible pizza’s. Prices are what you would expect from this area, but we can highly recommend Nela for the perfect business lunch or dinner date.
Having lived in London for about 7 years, I know how Indian Food is supposed to taste. Miri Mary blew us away with flavours! All dishes at this new restaurant in Amsterdam de Pijp, are delish. From the veggie samosa, homemade naan bread, and crispy eggplant balls, to the butter chicken or shrimp canapés. Like in India, dishes are shared, making your dining experience more fun – not having to stick with just one plate. Not to mention the cocktails they serve here; coconut and watermelon flavors, combined with Indian spices, make it different from others. Their space is small, but stylish and full on weekends! Definitely book your table here soon.
Located in the Westside of Amsterdam, you’ll find the brand new Greek restaurant Ikaria Park, tucked away in between the trees. It’s their second location, and only a stone throw away from the popular kiosk. Here they combine traditional Greek cooking, with a modern twist. So no standard Moussaka or pita Gyros, but fresh dips, octopus salad and topnotch souvlaki from the Japanese grill!
During the lockdown(s) the team behind this new restaurant in Amsterdam have been busy. Located in an undiscovered part of Amsterdam North you can now dine or brunch at Helling7. There was literally nothing at all on this spot in the middle of the Harbour at NDSM west. Between the steel, cranes and ships, next to Amsterdam Marina they have built a restaurant on an old slipway that used to be there for boats. It includes a lovely large terrace with a view of the whole city. The result is impressive and they will serve anything that will taste good on the BBQ! Reservations and more info on helling7.nl
New York, New York! Oh how we miss this city. Thankfully, this brand new café in Amsterdam East will bring that New York flavour. Inspired by NYC in olden days, they hint on IG thus far. On the 27th and 28th of January they will celebrate their re-opening with lobster rolls and hotdogs, a DJ and cocktails!
Celia Amsterdam, Nieuwendijk 60
And were staying in the USA because another new hotspot in Amsterdam with a California theme has opened a few months ago. Here you can eat all day (cocktail)-brunch and dinner. So what can you expect? Well, if you have ever been in “Cali”, you know they love food that is trendy, tasty but a little guilty free if you know what we mean. Lot’s of egg dishes, (veggie) burgers, taco’s and organic overnight oats. For dinner they serve small (to share) and larger plates with market veggies and fresh fish. Are you ready for a little California Dreaming?
Capital Kitchen, Wibautstraat 4a
The perfect workspot for freelancers? Perhaps it’s the new hangout for after work drinks? Whatever it may become, you may recognise this place as Stan & Co which it was called previously. Now, Capital C has decided to keep the restaurant space for themselves and so Capital Kitchen was born, including a complete make-over. This also applies to the menu, come check it out!
Fiona, Warmoesstraat 14
They say you can eat here like you are in Mexico! With the help of Mexican chef Zahie Tellez, the team behind Fiona has created an authentic menu and creative cocktails. If you are not crazy about Mexican food, you should still visit because of the stylish interior. Will this new Mexican hotspot will pass the test of time? We can’t wait to try, that’s for sure!
The man behind Jacobsz (one of our all-time faves) is also the man behind Le Coeur. Right in the middle of the 9 Straatjes, you’ll find this new must-visit restaurant. Expect seasonal ingredients and damn good food (and wine, let’s never forget about the wine)
Leidse Restaurant Bar, Kleine Gartmanplantsoen 11-H
Located at one of the (once) busiest of places, Leidse is looking forward to welcome back people. That being said, this new restaurant/bar is situated in a building that has changed owners and businesses more than Jeniffer Lopez has changed boyfriends. However, we are looking forward to the hustle and sipping on cocktails like people are suppose to in this spot!
Have fun discovering these new places!
