NUTCHEL COSY CABINS | FOREST CABIN

Somewhere in the Belgium Ardennes, you can find several cabins, hidden in a magical forest by the creek. A place to unwind, turn off your phone, and let nature surround you. This place is called Nutchel – Cosy Cabins, and we want to tell you all about it.

Nutchel – Cosy Cabins

If you have never stayed in a tiny house or forest cabin before, our advise is; go book it. Whether you choose Nutchel or something else, it’s an experience which will feed your mind and body, in a good way. Nutchel’s goal is simple. Disconnect with the fast pace that our daily lives require, and connect with nature, yourself and those surround you. Go back to the basics – use candles or batteries for light, firewood for warmth, and use the sound of nature to rest. Find back your creativity – draw, paint, play. To enjoy the full experience, stay for a minimum of 2 – 3 nights.

Locations

We stayed their Les Ardennes location, not far from Luxembourg – its original location where it all started. But not too long ago they also opened a second location in Alsace, close to Strasbourg, France. This location also has a pool, so also great for summer. In the Ardennes there are seven types of cabins to choose from, some with a hot tub! We were lucky to stay in their Canopy Cabin, which has a high rooftop terrace overlooking the treetops. All cabins have a kitchen with everything you need such a percolatortea pot, tableware and a small stove to cook on. You can order daily breakfast including fresh croissants, a BBQ or raclette at the reception, or reserve this when you book your cabin.

Our Canopy Cabin had space for four people, and the beds were much larger and more comfortable than I anticipated. Dreamy lights make this such a comfy area. Waking up, looking  out of the bedroom window as you lay in bed, feels like a slice of heaven. The rain shower is spacious, and although the bathroom is small, it fits just about anything you need. In terms of a stay during the colder seasons; each cabin also offer hot water bottles, extra blankets and of course a cosy fireplace. Wood can be cut nearby, and if you need to use the fridge, you can get free cooling elements from the freezer on the premises.

Activities (for kids and adults)

By now, you probably understand that relaxing is op top of the agenda here, but there is more. At the reception – which is open from 08:30 till 10:00 & 16:00 till 18:00 hours, you can grab free boardgames. But also paint and paper, great for kids and adults to get creative. Inside each cabin, you can find a pinboard where you can hang you creations. Kids can run around the forest and build  a tree hut, you will find them all around. Bring your kids to the fairy forest next to the reception where they can build a fairy house, collect stones or pinecones.

You can also rent bicycles and discover the beautiful routes that run past the creek and through the forests. TIP: order a Nutchel smores box and grill marshmallows over the fire. We enjoyed a summer day at the lake, just 25 minutes away where to can picnic. (bring your own food and drinks, as there are not many shops around. If you come early, you can find a free to use BBQ on the grass. We parked our car at Insenborn Plage – you pay around €1,50 per hour. If you do seek the city, you can drive to Luxembourg in about 40 minutes and discover the old city, go shopping or eat out.

Some things that (pleasantly) surprised me;
  • Although Nutchel is located in a forest, I hardly saw any bugs inside the cabin (not even one spider!)
  • Although you are going back to the basics, it doesn’t feel like camping. It way more comfortable. The beds, shower, and kitchen for instance.
  • It’s a safe place for children from the age of three years old I would say. Let them explore (but keep an eye on the little ones), no screens needed!
