Immerse yourself in this charming farmhouse surrounded by chickens, peacocks and nature. With beautiful spacious rooms, natural colours and beds from COCOMAT (best ever). Together with products in the bathroom that have been created with organic herbs from their own garden, makes this place even more unique. We are talking about Op Oost.
The breathtaking views over the authentic East village and the Wadden Sea will give you a relaxed vibe where you will feel at a home. Owners Valerie and Joram decided to buy and renovate the place, offer the perfect escape and a unique experience in the most convenient and flexible way.
It’s the place you would like to come back to
This place is the absolute perfect romantic and culinary getaway
Kook Atelier at Op Oost
Part of ‘Op Oost’ is Kook Atelier, a culinary feast! Dinner is served in their beautiful styled little green house, eating with all home-grown herbs and fruits from their own garden. Not to mention the local products from the island. Chef Joram Timmerman knows how to cook. Firstly, from Wednesday to Saturday nature is served! They call it Served by Nature’ & ‘Served by the Sea’ where nature decides what will be served, with seasonal products. A 4-course menu starts from €49 but you can go up to 8 courses if you want! Unfortunately we didn’t try it out since we were staying from Monday to Wednesday. A good reason why we should go back!
However, we did try the Fruit de Mer that they serve on Mondays and on Tuesday we tasted the fish baked in a salt crust. The chefs at Op Oost experiment with food and use unexpected ingredients. They serve items that are grown right from their garden or from local farmers.
NEARBY TO DO’S
Search for oysters
Or you an oyster love like myself? East was the beating heart of the oyster on Texel, so it won’t be difficult to find some at the dike just 3 minutes away from Oost. The best time to find oysters is when there’s an ‘R’ in the month. Pick your own up to 10 kilos!
Visit some villages
First things first; Rent a bicycle. We did this here. Discover the middle & upper part of the island and some of its villages. The scenery is spectacular here. Along the way you will find dunes, beaches, plants, animals and so much more beauty. Birds and sheep are everywhere here. Don’t forget to bring your binoculars (from your room) and spot some different bird species along the way. Now and then you can will find signs by the road, where you can purchase foods at farms like zucchini, eggs, jam and milk. I bought some for at home.
The island of Texel is a paradise for beach lovers, with its 30 km long sandy beach, there are a lot of different to choose from. We choose this one because of the great view and nice seats. After about 2 hours (totally exhausted… consider the e-bike!) we finally arrived at Strandpaviljoen paal 12. A super nice spot where you relax, have some drinks and food.
TIP: Visit the small city harbour Oudeschild and have lunch at Pakhuus. The best place to eat fish and sea food without a question. Whilst eating you can enjoy the great view of the harbour.
Finally, and I promise you this much, when you fall for relax scenic surroundings, luxury rooms and good food, you will be pleasantly surprised when you enter this place and try out Joram’s dishes. Let’s not forget the homemade all-natural body wash of Valerie (hopefully for sale soon in their soon opened shop) and coco-mat beds that makes it the perfect getaway.
As shown above, it’s worth staying a couple of days on the island of Texel. A place you would like to come back to because there’s so much more to discover.
