Platform for Positivity » Good News Is Out There

If you watch the news nowadays, it may leave you feeling a bit low. Our world seems worse than ever before. Wars, terrorist attacks, poverty, climate change and the list goes on. This news affects our daily lives and the way we look at the world. Unfortunately, negative news travels fast and make the headlines. If you are a journalist, you know it’s much harder to sell a positive news item, than a shocking one. News channels &  Newspapers live on advertising and brands will keep on advertising alongside the news that is getting the most views and hits, obviously. But we can actually change this. How? By simply sharing as much positive news as possible! This week, several journalists, news photographers, bloggers and vloggers came to together to launch the Platform for Positivity in Amsterdam.

We discussed how we can change the news and content we share. But hold on a second, the world so shitty at the moment right? Well, not everything is bad, just have a look at these facts.

Did you know that:

  • Less people die of terrorist attacks than back in the 1970’s?
  • 91{8b669be72a7f340f9ef2d6d852585cd40ddf0e79ccf763f3ea93c1234c3d888b} of the population has access to clean drinking water?
  • There are less wars in the world than ever before?
  • Poverty has been reduced by almost 50{8b669be72a7f340f9ef2d6d852585cd40ddf0e79ccf763f3ea93c1234c3d888b}?

Other “positive” news:

  • The voice of Winnie the Pooh and Tigger, Jim Cummings, calls children’s hospitals in his spare time to cheer up sick children
  • Cuddling can help wounds heal faster, due to the release of oxytocin
  • Every year, hundreds of new trees grow because of squirrels forgetting where they buried their nuts.

Constructive Journalism does not just show the negative results and problems, but uses a wider context focusing on causes and most importantly: solutions.

Platform for Positivity has been set up by a team of content creators such as Jeroen Swolfs (Streets of the World), Wendy Kweens (Who Cares), Mirjam Vossen (World’s Best News) and more. Together with Sabine De Witte (Your Ambassadrice), have was asked to be one of the Ambassadors for the platform. On the launch, Dutch TV host Eddy Zoëy lead the discussion. Our job is to spread news that is positive and real!

Check out the website and share your content on Social Media with the hashtag #Plat4P and tag @platformforpositivity.

Let’s make this world a better looking place! Will you join us?

Love,

Elke
