Let’s dive into the enchanting Roermond and its surroundings, where history, culture, and natural beauty blend together. Making it the perfect summer weekend escape. Whether you’re a history buff eager to explore centuries-old landmarks, a nature lover yearning for tranquil landscapes, or a shopaholic in pursuit of fabulous deals, Roermond has something for everyone. Here’s an overview of all the activities we loved to do while staying there.
Where to Stay in Roermond?
If you’re in the mood for a taste of luxury, I’ve got just the recommendation for you – La Butte aux Bois in Lanaken (30 min drive from Roermond city). It’s a dreamy 5 star hotel surrounded by nature’s beauty and oozing elegance from every corner. It’s like stepping into a fairy tale! The rooms and suites are pure bliss, with comfy beds and fancy furnishings. Take a stroll through the lush gardens or indulge in one of the spa treatments. And don’t even get me started on the food – the two star restaurant here is top-notch, serving up mouthwatering dishes from breakfast to dinner.
McArthurGlen Roermond Designer Outlet
Oh, the Roermond Designer Outlet is like a shopaholic’s dream playground! Picture this: rows upon rows of designer stores, offering fabulous deals and discounts on all your favorite brands. It’s a retail wonderland where fashion fantasies come to life. From trendy clothing to chic accessories, the choices are endless. You’ll be strutting around like a fashion icon without breaking the bank. The following are my favorite stores at the outlet: Closed, American Vintage, Carhartt, IRO, The Sunglass Hut, Prada, Sandro, Maje, Babor, Columbia, Levi’s and the Cosmetics store. Yes, we did a little shopping!
Get into Nature
Roermond boasts a beautiful natural landscape. Rent a bicycle and pedal your way through the scenic paths surrounding the city. The Maasplassen, a vast series of interconnected lakes, offers an ideal spot for water sports enthusiasts. Take in the stunning beauty of Limburg’s nature by going on a canoe trip with Kayak Maasland! There’s no better way to soak in the splendor of this region than gliding along the water, surrounded by breathtaking views. Along the way, you’ll be joined by fascinating companions such as herons, horses, and majestic swans. If you prefer a more laid-back morning, opt for a calming hike in the nearby Meinweg National Park, which contains picturesque heathlands, woodlands, and diverse wildlife.
Visit Beach Bar Bruis
Make your way to the stunning Maasplassen nearby. These tranquil lakes are a paradise for water lovers, offering a plethora of leisure and activities to keep you entertained. Here you’ll also find the trendy beach bar Bruis, where you’ll indulge in the laid-back vibes of Ibiza. With its charming décor, mesmerizing views, and a delightful menu, it’s the perfect spot to recharge your energy. During the period from April to September, this beach bar truly comes alive. Just in case the weather doesn’t cooperate; NU Nautilus is located closer to the city center and is a fantastic alternative. The terrace offers breathtaking vistas of the city harbor, ensuring a delightful dining experience. So, get ready to enjoy a fantastic day filled with good food, beautiful views, and water-bound adventures at Maasplassen!
Go Wine Tasting
Be sure to discover the vineyards and try the wines of Domein Aldeneyck in Maaseik. Karel and Tine have carefully cultivated their vineyards along the river’s edge. Benefitting from a special microclimate that imparts a distinctive taste to the grapes. The fruits of their labor have earned numerous awards, and you can enjoy these multi-award-winning wines on their lively terrace. Enthusiastic sommeliers will eagerly share the fascinating stories behind each vintage, making your tasting experience truly memorable. Cheers!
Roermond’s Historic City Centre
By all means, walk across the charming cobblestone streets, visit the Munsterkerk, and admire the elegant Stadhuis in the historic heart of Roermond. This city is often described as “bourgondisch” or “Burgundian”. Referring to its reputation for a rich lifestyle centered around good food, drink, and enjoyment. The term “Burgundian” originates from the historical region of Burgundy in France, which was known for its love of fine food, wine, and celebrations. Spend an afternoon & evening exploring the historic streets that are filled with lively terraces and cute boutiques.
As can seen above, Roermond’s charm lies not only in its individual attractions and beautiful nature, but also in the inviting ambiance. So whether you’re planning a weekend getaway or a more extended vacation, the Roermond area offers experience filled with outdoor adventure activities, relaxation, good shopping and culinairy treats.
