Het Huis van Iemand Anders » A different kind of Café

If you’re looking for a laid back place to eat and enjoy drinks with friends, you should go to Het Huis Van Iemand Anders, which literally translates to The House Of Someone Else. (yes, the crazy Dutch come up with the weirdest names)

It started as an office space for a creative agency, then opted as a bar at night, and since a couple of weeks, you can also enjoy affordable (but tasty) dinners. The location is somewhat special and has 3 floors that all have a different feel to it. For one, there is a proper bar vibe when you first enter, but walk down the stairs and you’ll enter an inside garden area where you can sit down and enjoy dinner. Upstairs you have a living room vibe with lounge chairs that are perfect for relaxing and drink your cocktail(s).

The Menu
Every couple of months, the menu will change and now and then a new pop-up kitchen will cook for the customers of Het Huis Van Iemand Anders. At the moment, you can enjoy different Gua Boa Buns for just €5,- each! This popular Taiwanese speciality is great to share with friends because there are plenty of buns to choose from. Peking Duck, pulled chicken, Ebi friend shrimp or beetroot burger buns are all on the menu.

Events
You can celebrate your birthday here, but have a look at their Facebook Page, because there are plenty events going on. On Kingsnight for example, they will host a party with DJ’s and drinks, and they have hosted Karaoke nights before (including bubble tea), so you’re always in for a night of fun at Het Huis Van Iemand Anders!

Come here for a fun night out, don’t dress up to fancy, and keep an open mind. With these ingredients, you are definitely coming back.

Just in time for spring » Bar Kosta is open!

If you live in Amsterdam, and you’ve been around the Overtoom, you must have seen the large terrace on the corner of Surinameplein. It used to be Café Ter Brugge, but it has completely changed it’s look, menu and name. Bar Kosta is just in time for the sunny weather this weekend!

All Day Breakfast & Luxury Snacks
I spoke to the manager and she told me that they are taking a different approach when it comes to food. On the menu you will find “luxury” borrel bites such as flatbreads with falafel, kibbeling, rendang or chicken masala. They also serve healthy food bowls and a killer Tom Kha Kai Soup. New at this café is the breakfast option. From 10am until 4pm, you can order croissants, tosti’s, poached eggs or smoothie bowls. The kitchen is open until 11pm, so it’s perfect to end your evening here.

The Terrace
It’s huuuuge! They officially opened up their doors yesterday afternoon when the first sunshine broke through the clouds. It’s such a unique location because of the large terrace area and open view (great for people watching!). One thing that hasn’t changed it’s the vibe this location has. People from all over town come here to meet friends after work or for the occasional catch up.

It’s probably one of the best terraces Amsterdam West has to offer and perfect for this coming temperatures!

Generator Hostel Amsterdam opens The Oosterbar

When the Generator Hostel in Amsterdam opened, we had a hangover for days. Meaning, it was good fun! One of the areas where we danced all night, was a bar in the basement of the building that included a beautiful refurbished bar. Well, this bar opens to the public this Saturday! Friday and Saturday nights are for the Oosterbar.

Oosterbar is a new nightly bar in Amsterdam East where you can mingle and drink cocktails until the early hours. A clever concept because Amsterdam East is really the place to be at the moment. New concepts, hotels and restaurants are opening up by the month and attracting a young hip crowd. Oosterbar is trying to cater to this target group by opening up their doors.

“We want to create a creative vibe with the Oosterbar and add this to Amsterdam’s nightlife”

The Bar
The building where Oosterbar is situated used to be a University of Health studies and was build back in 1908. Now it’s used as the new Generator Hostel and open to travelers around the world that love a hostel kind of vibe but also prefer the services and cleanness of a hotel. (see our article aboput Poshtels) The bar itself has an Berlin vibe to it with industrial features. They’ve kept some of the original design features such as the white metro tiles and historical window frames. The bar can hold 180 people and is perfect for a party. The warm old-fashioned light bulbs behind the industrial bar put down a nice contrast. Located in the basement where no disturbances may encounter, Oosterbar is the place to let your hair loose. Even the world’s largest online music platform Boiler Room has curated here.

Music
Oosterbar offers regular programming on Friday and Saturday, and one-off performances. The night bar is proud of her city and therefore mainly put local DJs behind the decks, with a monthly visit to international artists. On Friday they play soulful music, from hip hop to R & B and funk & soul to bass and on Saturday you can expect electronic music: house, tech, soul and deep house. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for events and parties.

Review » Restaurant/Bar THE DUCHESS

Last week we received a very prestigious invite to the opening of The Duchess Amsterdam.
Not sure whether this was the opening of a club, restaurant or hotel, it certainly made us guessing which is always a good thing!

We were told to dress up very nicely and shine shine shine! So that’s exactly what we did! (well, at least we tried to)

THE invite made us curious!

The mystery was unveiled when we entered the beautiful location in the heart of Amsterdam.
Located in the former Kasbank, our first impression was very positive. My god what an amazing place!

The ambiance, impressive interior, high quality food, very friendly people, name it; it was all there!
Owner Yossi Eliyahoo (the brain behind MOMO, Izakaya & The Butcher) says: “There’s no such thing as a finish in a race for quality”

During the night they served some top notch bites: Oysters with Tomato Consommé, Prawn and Artichoke Salad, Royal Beef Tartar and some very tasty cocktails!
But there’s more to the DUCHESS than amazing food and cocktails. From the morning on they open the Tearoom for high tea and champagne so we will be back for that!

Funky house and colourful cocktails always do well with us!

We are very excited about this lavish restaurant/bar which looks like it’s going to be the new hit in town!
