I know Spring has only just arrived, but I’m sure we’re all looking forward to Summer already. Whether you’re a fan of pop music or rock and roll, if you’re planning on visiting the City of Light in the next few months, make sure you read on and check out some of the most phenomenon music festivals that will be held here in Paris, to make your next trip even more memorable!

21 – 23 June 2019

The three-day festival is back for its 21st edition this year with close to 80 new concerts from artists such as Macklemore, Josman and Therapie Taxi, an exciting mixture of French and international performers. The coolest thing about the festival has got to be the generous donation they make to organisations combating AIDS each year from the proceeds. As with the previous years, Solidays will be held in l’Hippodrome de Longchamp and you can bag a ticket for as little as 46,50€.

The Peacock Society Festival

5 – 7 July 2019

Despite being smaller in size than the other festivals mentioned herein, this annual electronic music festival is not to be missed whether you’re a fan of this music genre or not. Unlike the others, again, The Peacock Society Festival is a night-time festival and the party doesn’t start till 8 pm at Parc Floral de Paris. But, don’t worry, you’ll get your electronic fix by the end of the night (or more accurately, the start of the next day, at 7 am). Make sure you’ve got enough energy to power through the night on the dancefloor to BICEP DJset, The Black Madonna 3H set and Toma Kami. There are still some tickets left for 39€.

The Peacock Society Festival in Paris

13 – 14 July 2019

For the booty shakers and rhythm lovers, for two days each year, Paris puts on a phenomenal line up of iconic and emerging musical talents, celebrating African heritage in the purest way we know how – collectively in a safe environment. The acts this year include Solange, Janelle Monae, Maleek Berry and Masego, just to name a few without giving it all away! This year, Afropunk will take place in La Seine Musicale and tickets go from 65€.

Afropunk Paris

Lollapalooza Paris

20 – 21 July 2019

This originally American music festival Lollapalooza is coming back to Paris this summer, with an impressive line-up that you wouldn’t want to miss, including Twenty Øne Piløts, Martin Garrix and Clean Bandit. The festival will take place at Hippodrome Paris Longchamp, a large racecourse inside Bois de Boulogne, over the weekend. Tickets are on sale from 79€.

Rock en Seine

23 – 25 August 2019

This is undoubtedly one of the biggest music events in Paris. This year, the festival will guarantee insane performances by Major Lazer, Jorja Smith and Aphex Twins. Rock en Seine will be spaced out over three days at Parc de Saint-Cloud, which can easily be reached by metro, tram and buses. Don’t you think this is an adult only festival! Children can also join in the fun at their own Mini Rock en Seine. Tickets are priced from 69€.

Summer in the city, why we love Amsterdam

It’s no secret that we are crazy in love with Amsterdam. Even though we travel around the world and have seen so many amazing places, it’s such a good feeling to fly back to Amsterdam, the city we call our home. Like most cities, Amsterdam is at it’s best during summer. There are ton’s of events, places to sit outside and summer festivals. We have lined up a few reasons why Amsterdam is our favorite city in..well, the world!

Those Canals..
Yep, that’s Amsterdam’s little Venice. There’s nothing like it and during summer you can’t miss out on the many boats floating around the canals of our city. It’s very common for a group of friends to hire a boat where everybody brings wine, snacks and music to enjoy the day until the sun goes down. At night you can enjoy the canals as most of them are lit up by romantic lights.

It’s Foodie Heaven
New York, Bangkok, Los Angeles, Berlin, Paris, London you name it, we’ve all been there but Amsterdam seriously has some of the best food divided over different area’s. Because it’s so multicultural, you can literally find all sorts of cuisines here. From Asian, Moroccan, Italian, French to Tapas or Vegan. It’s here. If there is a new food hype, you can probably find it here in Amsterdam. Some of our favorite restaurants are BAK, Cottoncake, A-Fusion and Bo Nam.

On Friday nights you can find us at Bo Nam!

Green, Greener, Greenest
Because Amsterdam is so wide and open, we have a lot of space for green. Meaning, we have a park in almost every part of the city. If you live in West you have Westerpark, If you live in East, you have Oosterpark, if you live in South, you have Amstelpark and the center has the famous Vondelpark of course. We haven’t even mentioned the large Amsterdamse Bos which is more of a forest! Check out our green urban route in Amsterdam.

In the forest of Amsterdam

Some tourists think Amsterdam is a city of sin, but in truth it’s a city of freedom. And in freedom, most people find sin. ― John Green

Terraces Everywhere!
Unlike a city like New York, we have a lot of space in between the buildings and houses. Therefore many restaurant and bar owners have a licence to serve drinks and food outside. This is what makes Amsterdam extra special. If the sun shines, everyone is outside. Check out the best terraces in Amsterdam West and Amsterdam East or look a little higher and find out where the best rooftop terraces are.

Restaurant Bureau rooftop
One of the reasons we love Amsterdam: Terraces!

It’s Close to the Beach
Another BIG reason to love Amsterdam. If it’s more than 25 degrees outside and you’re in need of a sea breeze to cool you off, you can drive to the beach within 25 minutes. You have many options to choose from but we love Wijk aan Zee, Zandvoort and if you want to stay really close, you can visit Blijburg beach which is actually IN Amsterdam!

At Timboektoe Beachclub, Wijk aan Zee

We have some of the best Museums in the world
This is actually a fact. The Van Gogh Museum is one of the most visited museums in the world with more than 2.000.000 visits. Besides that we have the Rijksmuseum, Stedelijk for modern art, FOAM for photography and of course the famous Anne Frank house. Nemo is a science museum for kids and Amsterdam hosts many exhibitions throughout the year at various locations.

Summer Festivals
If you like summer festivals, Amsterdam is perfect for you! Our city hosts a stagering 300(!) festivals per year so you can only imagine how many there are during the summer. From dance festivals to foodtrucks, kids or festivals for the LGBT community, it’s all here!

Amsterdam has so many festivals to choose from

Amsterdam is very diverse, also when it comes to it’s people. Most people who live here, weren’t born or raised here but pretty much consider themselves as an Amsterdam citizen. Why? Because they are proud to live in Amsterdam. And yes, we are guilty as charged, because we are “imported” as well. Almost 10 years ago! We can’t imagine leaving this beautiful city just yet..

An Italian Summer full of festivals!

It seems as if Italy has finally got its mojo back, this year the Italian beaches will be the summer destination of choice for millions of Europeans probably wary to venture to tourist destinations in Turkey, France and Spain. Unfortunately, the terror threat has had a certain decisive factor for many travelers however Italian hotel owners will be the last to complain. If you are coming to Italy this summer you are absolutely spoiled for choice as there are countless music, theatre and gastronomy festivals, outdoor operas and concerts by international stars. There is still plenty on schedule for this Italian Summer.

As it promises to be another long hot summer with temperatures up to 40 degrees in many popular destinations I’m guessing you will be up for some action during the cooler evenings. This is a rundown of my favourite events which will be taking place during the end of July up to about the end of August in some of the main tourism destinations such as Marche, Tuscany and Sardinia.

Marche is a glorious summer destination with some of the best beaches, food and wine Italy has to offer. Marche is also the destination for Summer Outdoor Opera lovers such as the Macerata Opera Festival will be playing through the 14th of August at the Arena Sferisterio.

A favourite of Classical music lovers is the Ravello Festival, these enchanting concerts take place high above the Mediterranean Sea in the ancient hamlet of Ravello, with unmatched views over the Amalfi coastline. Concerts are to be scheduled throughout the month of August up until September 30th.

Italian Summer ravello-festival
Stunning views at the Ravello Festival

I’m going to skip right over to Sardegna if I may, for the Dromos Festival, for those of us that would like to celebrate the existence of the ‘disobedient’ woman! Who doesn’t? The objective of the festival is to pay homage to contributions of women in music and the arts. A festival that could potentially please many with an international line up filled with new age jazz, blues and contemporary acts. Taking place from the 1st august until the 15th of August: Concerts, expositions and theatre some of which will be held center stage at the spectacular ancient seafront amphitheater, the Arena di Tharros.

So you actually think you would like to spend August in Rome? No you aren’t completely weird, no weirder then me in any case! Because I think Rome is awesome in August, no traffic, parking spots, quiet evenings. So don’t miss taking in an Puccini Opera at the Roman Thermal Baths of Caraccalla which is being used as a backdrop for some of the most amazing Italian Operas up until mid August with Madame Butterfly, Nabucco and The Barber of Seville on the program. Tickets are available here

However the hottest ticket in town is most likely the Andrea Bocelli concert The Cirque to be held at the open air Teatro di Silenzio near the Tuscan town of Lajatico on the Maremma Coast on the 29th and the 30th of July.

Italian Summer, teatro del silenzio

I’ll meet you here this Italian summer! – Cous Cous Fest 16th – 25th of September in Sicily
If you ever traveled to Sicily and missed a visit to the beaches and islands off the Western Coast in my opinion you have missed out on some of the prettiest beaches, national parks and idyllic holiday islands on the Sicilian coastline. From Castellemare di Golfo to the outer island of Pantelleria the province of Trapani makes for a stunning holiday destination. Those of you looking for great street food, eateries and great beaches look no further than the town of San Vito Lo Capo. You would do well to stop by during the annual Cous Cous Fest that’s set between the narrow streets and piazza’s. It’s a truly a gastronomy festival where Europe meets Africa. This is a Cous Cous cook off with contestant chefs from eight countries – Côte d’Ivoire, France, Israel, Italy, Morocco, Senegal, and Tunisia, plus the Palestinian Territories
