Where to Celebrate New Year’s Eve in Utrecht this year

“New Year’s Eve is every man’s birthday”, said Charles Lamb, and who wouldn’t want to find the perfect place to celebrate? But universal and hyped up celebration also means many, many options when it comes to venue, theme, music, price and even dress code. Here’s a little rundown of things happening in Utrecht this year.

New Years Eve Festival @ TivoliVredenburg
Where? Tivoli Vredenburg, Vredenburgkade 11, Time: 10PM to 6AM

It is New Year’s Eve, so of course Tivoli would have something in store for Utrechters. Now, how is this event different from a standard tivoli party? This festival-style venue-wide event gives attendees access to all the different venues within Tivoli Vredenburg, with different themes, artists, music genres and venue sizes. In short? For this one, the main attraction really is the venue. Het Muntgebouw, as its name indicates, is an old coin factory, and it’s worth a visit, not mentioning partying in. Second strong selling point of this event: it is all inclusive. So get your bling on – because if not in a coin factory then when? – and enjoy a continuous flow of bubbles, shots and confettis. One of the Netherlands biggest electronic music event is coming to Utrecht, and those looking for a night-long succession of live acts and DJs are given exactly what they’re asking for. Get your tickets early, this giant of a New Years party is selling out fast.

For those in the mood for a snazzy James Bond dress-code, some cocktails, open buffet and a little roulette to match the theme, Kartoffel is where it’s at! Oud & Nieuw Party @ Olivier
Where? Olivier, Achter Clarenburg 6A, Time: from 10:30PM on

Olivier is bringing in a DJ party, and that, as can attest the connaisseurs, is rather unusual for this beer café located in an old church ​(link to other post if already up)​. Where? WAS, Tractieweg 41, Time: 00:30 to 08:30AM.

WAS., although one of the newest comers on the scene, is already a well established venue for all the techno-loving ravers among us. Located in a large warehouse in Zuilen (North West of the city center), WAS. attracts a diverse range of young party-goers until the break of dawn. If you are planning on keeping to party going after the clock strikes 2019, any party at WAS. is a safe bet. NYE w/ Olivier Weiter @ Basis
Where? Venue: Basis, Oudegracht aan de Werf 97, Time: 00:30 to 6:00AM (minimum) 

Price: €15
If electronic music is your scene, Basis may just be ticking all your boxes this year. Olivier Weiter, who will be assisting you in this all-nighter, is the DJ scoring the highest number of night-long parties at Basis. So let’s run down the checklist. Energetic and quality-proven DJ? If you’re looking for something a bit weird but wonderful, you need to go to this party on New Years Eve. It’s held in a theater with four different rooms right in the heart of Amsterdam where you can wonder, take on a game of armwrestling, listen to violin battles, drink absinth and dance to Balkan bands and magnificent dj’s. 2000 & Chin – New Year’s Eve, Chin Chin Club 
The recently opened Chin Chin Club is a combination between food, drinks, games and dance. It will be crazy, loud and festive. There will be a mega countdown, Chinese confetti and you can dance to house and disco hits. Located at the Rozengracht, it’s perfect for a night out that could last forever. Kriss Kross New Year’s Eve, Elementenstraat
The boys from Amsterdam certainly know how to party and it’s no surprise that they are hosting a new years eve party this year. The dresscode is the Big Gatsby so you can go all out! The boys are hosting three stages; Mainstage, Old School and purple reload. Rumor has it that their famous Dutch uncle (Hennie Huisman), will take the stage for a mini playback show. NYE Around The World 2018, Westerunie
Vunzige Deuntjes, Rewind Amsterdam, Het Partyfeest, Friendzone Amsterdam en Klerenbende are joining forces for this event. What makes this event so special? They will celebrate NYE is 7 different countries which means there will be a countdown every hour (in a different language), every hour confetti, champagne, kisses and hugs. It seems like they are trying to copy an exclusive December party Oud & Opnieuw, but ey, who cares, it sounds like a lot of fun! The final release tickets are almost sold out so hurry! Website

Edel’s Oud & Nieuw Spektakel, Het Sieraad
This party is being held at a schoolbuilding in Amsterdam West so there are different rooms and hallways to dance through. Everything will be golden this year. Gold glitter, gold confetti and golden oldies. The only downside is, that we personally think that the sounds isn’t too good at Edel. This has something to do with the shape of the venue. A positive thing is, that the tickets are not crazy expensive. For 37,50 you have yourself a great night out. Website

Remember when we told you about the largest Christmas parade in Amsterdam? Well, they are also hosting a New Years Eve celebration. Experience this special night at an ice-skating ring, a mega ferris wheel, fireworks show and an overflow of champagne. Tickets are only €13,85 and includes a glass champagne and a tasty oliebol! Dinner, dance and cheers. That’s what you can do here. Expect all the biggest hits and best tunes of 2017 feel free to dance on the table! The Bierfabriek is known for it’s great atmosphere and comfort food. For €50,- p.p you can have yourself a 3-course meal and limitless drinks until 12am. It’s the same story every year..Where are you going to celebrate New Year’s Eve? Well, we did some research for you and we think these are some of the best new year’s eve parties in Amsterdam!

PARTY OF THE YEAR
Where: Westerunie, Klönneplein 4-6
Co-Hosted by our friends from Fat Kids Cake, this might be the party of the year if we have to believe them! The line up includes Vic Crezée, Abstract (who recently represented The Netherlands in the Red Bull Thre3style world title), Phalerieau and more. There will be several area’s so space enough to get your groove on! Tickets are sold out but check the Facebook page or Ticketswap and you might get lucky.

Where: Scheepsbouwloods, TT. Neveritaweg 15
If you feel like a real crazy party with confetti, attributes and costumes, you must visit the El Row new years eve party. Originated from Barcelona, this infamous techno club is now making waves all over the world with parties in Amsterdam, Dubai and New York. This years theme is Brazilian Carnaval. It was sold out in minutes but I managed to get in during ADE so anything is possible! Find a ticket on Facebook or Ticketswap. Watch the video from 0:53 seconds to get a good impression!

IGNITION – NEW YEARS EVE 2016
Where: Generator Hostel, next to Oosterpark
From Amsterdam to London, Barcelona to Berlin and every other spot around the globe. They want to bring back the good old days with this party. You can expect balloons, bubbles, great music, fireworks, party people and good vibes. Tickets cost 25 euro and are still available! Score them quickly here.

Where: At Pllek, Tt. Neveritaweg 59
Dinner reservations are full but the dancefloor is ready and the entrance is free! They organize the drinks, music, atmosphere and you will make it happen! Bring your own fire works and enjoy the waterfront and campfires. Mind you, the last ferry towards the NDSM will depart at 19:45 so don’t be late or you need to take the car. The party starts at 6pm and if you don’t have dinner reservations you can still enjoy bar snacks until 10pm. For more info check the Facebook page.

W NEW YEAR NO RULES
Where: W Amsterdam, Spuistraat 175
This is the place with one of the best views to see the fireworks and the place if you want to treat yourself to a posh new year’s eve experience. On the rooftop of the W Hotel you can look out over the whole city including Dam Square. Ticket are available for 50 euro or 70 euro at the door. It starts at 8pm until 3am. Get your tickets here.

ANY HOUSE PARTY
Where: All over Amsterdam
Yes, we are serious. House parties (and we mean the one with a roof on top of it) are the best parties around. Check your friends (or friends of theirs) and try to crash as many home parties as you can! Make a sport out of it, trust me, you will have a great night with adventure, new friends and different impressions. At midnight, remember to go outside and enjoy it the Dutch way. (lot’s and lot’s of fire works!) Always remember to stay friendly and bring a bottle of bubbles or oliebollen and you should be fine! Entrance should be free but bring some means of trade just in case 😉
