24 Dec THE BEST OF DUBAI 2025
Dubai is by far one of the most extravagant destinations in the world. Showcasing some of the most impressive buildings and hotels, we travelled to Dubai to see more than meets the eye.
The Best of Dubai
Honestly, Dubai is a fast pace city, so it’s a little hard to keep up. But in this article we will keep you up to date, and give you a few tips before you go.
- In Dubai you travel by car, you can rent one at Sunny Cars for example, making commuting easy.
- Travel between October and April for the most pleasant temperatures.
- Go all out with your fashion, but be respectful when it comes to attire, we loved our long dresses!
- You can go off the beaten track, you just need to know what to look for
- Book your hotel early and look for the best hotel deals.
Art Dubai
During our trip we visited Art Dubai and it’s many collections and art galleries. It’s the most renowned art fair in the Middle East, running for the 18th year. With digital art being more popular than ever, we were surprised about the variety of artists from all over the world, political statements were made through art pieces, and it felt very liberal. The next edition will be held between the 18th – 20th of April. Find out more about Dubai Art.
Where to eat in Dubai
The question we should ask, is where not to eat, because there is just so much good out there. One thing Dubai is very good at, is its culinary scene. We tried some of the best restaurants in Dubai, and you can pretty much find any restaurant imaginable. We made a little selection for you, during our last visit.
Mimi Kakushi – Japanese cuisine
Probably one of the best Japanese restaurants we ever ate, for a couple of reasons. When you arrive, you will walk straight into the sushi counter, which makes it feel like you’ve transported to Japan. Wasabi is made freshly on your table, and makes you wonder what you have eaten with you’re sushi for all these years! Don’t skip the cocktail menu, which are linked to a record that the DJ plays when you order.
Riviera by Jean Imbert – International
We stayed at The Lana Dubai, a next level luxury hotel, which houses Riviera. At night you can enjoy a Mediterranean menu with some innovating dishes. The ‘Mimosa’ artichoke – which was presented as a flower with a dip was an amazing starter, and the Jean’s avocado had a little surprise on the inside which you must order to see.
The Guild – Italian/Mediterranean
Find yourself in a New York vibe that takes you back to the roaring thirties. Plants are everywhere as you walk in, with a glasshouse salon that sets in the middle, that is used for drinks. The dining area is a large space where it all happens. The open kitchen with at least 10 cooks and chefs is buzzing while the fire is going. Large round tables and an incredible interior will make you look around for a bit before you can sit and look at the menu.
SMCCU – Local food
Now, this place is nothing you can compare to any of the above, but we absolutely loved it. Located in the middle of the old city of Dubai, you can’t get a more local experience than this one. Eating on the floor, on soft colourful cushions, and fresh prepared traditional Emirati food that warms your heart. You can book breakfast, lunch or dinner for 1 hour and 30 minutes starting at 130 AED.

Museum of the Future
One highlight you cannot miss out on, is the Museum of the Future that opened in 2022. This interactive museum is great for young and old, with fun games, but also beautiful displays, and informative without being boring. Inside the museum you are invited to transport yourself to the year 2071. Together with the stunning and impressive architecture, we loved the DNA Library, which showcases various organisms in a beautiful display. Get your tickets here.
Stay near the Museum of the Future!
Hajar Mountains – go back to nature
Did you know you can escape the city and visit this stunning region? It’s rugged, and a complete contrast with the city of Dubai. Although most of this mountain range is part of Northeastern Oman, it reaches all the way to the peninsula of the UAE. The tallest building may be the Burj Kalifa, but the highest point of Dubai is without question the mountain of the sun located in the Hajar Mountains.
Hatta – Mountain Village
Hatta is a charming mountain town about 130 km southeast of Dubai, known for its stunning scenery and fun outdoor activities. Once famous for its historic fort and desert farms, it’s now a hotspot for adventure lovers. Whether you’re hiking through its dreamy landscapes, mountain biking at Hatta Wadi Hub, or checking out the Hatta Honeybee Garden to harvest some fresh honey, there’s always something exciting to do. Don’t forget your camping gear if you want to fully soak in the natural beauty! You can book a private tour here.
Alserkal Avenue, Al Quoz
This felt like being in Europe a little bit, super nice! You need to get here by car or taxi, because it’s a little out of the main city. This industrial hub has a lot of nice boutique shops with local goods, vintage, and unique pieces. Foodwise, you’re also in the right place. A favorite is the cinema that’s also a café/bar, a favorite with expats. Great for ice-cream, art exhibitions, and some shopping. In the same area, but across the street, you can find the Al Quoz Courtyard. Full of flowers, a fountain, and on each side you’ll find various shops where artists create unique lifestyle goods and items. It was one of our favorite places to stroll around in Dubai!
Walk around Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood
This part of Dubai shows you the historical side, even though Dubai’s history only dates back to the 1800’s. Pearl fishing and trade was the main source of income, and this all changed because of the oil. In the 1970’s, Dubai started to rapidly develop, and the rest is history. Walking around the Al Fahidi neighbourhood, gives you an idea how Dubai used to look, although most buildings have been restored or created. This is what you can find in this area:
- Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Centre for Cultural Understanding (SMCCU)
- Arabian Tea House
- Al Seef (creek) – where you can experience a boatride
- Deira souks
At Wander-Lust we always like to get lost and discover for ourselves, but if you want some extra background info and guidance, you can book an Old City Tour where you visit the souks for example.
Have breakfast in the Burj Kalifa!
If you walk in the Mall of Dubai, you will most likely see a big line for people to get in the Burj Kalifa. Besides, you need to pay for a ticket obviously. We have a tip for you to skip the line! Instead, book a luxury breakfast at the Armani Hotel, At.mosphere, which is located on the 39th floor of the massive Burj Kalifa. TIP: definitely pay a visit to the toilet, you will see the most incredible view!
