08 Nov OUR FAVORITE HOTELS IN THE NETHERLANDS
As you guys know, we explored the world during our travels. However, during the pandemic, we were forced to explore our surrounding a bit closer to home. During this period we stayed in several beautiful hotels over the course of two years and we thought it would be time for the ultimate hotel list in the Netherlands.
If you are looking for the perfect place to stay, affordable, unique, or even luxurious, check out our favorite staycations in the Netherlands so far.
IN THE CITY
Hotel Okura Amsterdam
Probably the most famous staycation in this list. Did you know Hotel Okura is 50 years old this year? The Japanese-style hotel has been receiving guest for years, making it an absolute favourite amongst many travelers. Did you know, that they currently offer family stays with interconnecting rooms? Yes please! (that’s a mum speaking) If you always wanted to stay at Okura, be quick before it’s fully booked!Â

The July – Hotel Boat & Co
Located in Amsterdam’s upcoming “Houthavens” district, The July – Boat & Co has a unique concept. Firstly, they are currently one of the most sustainable hotels in the city. Secondly, they provide guests with apartment style rooms so you can really spend a lot of time in your hotel room instead of just using it for sleeping. We enjoyed our staycation here back when they first opened and prepared dinner in our room, watched TV in our small living area and worked throughout the day with a beautiful view over the waterfront. Furthermore, they have a gym, yoga classes and sauna. What’s not to like?
Pillows Hotel Zwolle
In the lovely centre of Zwolle, you can find Pillows Hotel. When it first opened we had a test sleep and we came back last holiday season. With its stunning hallway with herringbone flooring, the eye-catching marble bar, modern bedrooms, and private sauna rooms you can put this one on your list! While you’re in Zwolle (which is a really nice historical city by the way), check out these local hotspots!
Hotel Sterrenberg
This wellness hotel is not like any other. It guarantees unforgettable memories and offers a way to relax your mind and reboot your system. The Eye catcher of Sterrenberg is their modern and luxurious wellness with several saunas and two indoor pools where you can pamper yourself for hours. The hotel itself is surrounded by breathtaking nature. In fact, it’s situated near National Park de Hoge Veluwe where you can discover the beautiful landscapes, art, architecture and if you are lucky you can spot some wild deer.

Cabin ANNA
By far one of the best accommodations we’ve ever stayed in. This incredible structure moves on rails, so you can either sleep in the glass house underneath the stars, or feel the sun on your skin during breakfast. You can find Cabin ANNA at two different locations in the Netherlands; Holendrecht in Schaik, and in De Biesbosch wildlife reserve.

Havenlake Village
By far, on top of the list when we talk about our favourite staycations in the Netherlands. Havenlake Village was opened during the pandemic but remained fully booked throughout the year. We get it! They offer 6 spacious and beautiful water-villas near Vinkeveen. Inside, its like walking into a interior dream with a large living space, fully equipped kitchen and dining area. Each villa has two separate bedrooms so you can book your stay with friends or family. The bathroom has a huge shower with a glass roof so you can watch the stars while getting clean! But best of all is the bathtub outside the porch that you can use throughout the year. It’s luxury so you pay more than you might be used to, but if you share the villa, it’s a pretty good deal! Come on peeps, sometimes we all deserve a little pampering. Book this stay here!

Eco Hotel Rococo
If you are looking for a romantic getaway in a massive and stunning estate villa, check out Eco Hotel Rococo. It’s an all time new favourite of us because of many different reasons. Firstly, the location and interior. Just wow. Surrounded by trees grass fields with horses, Rococo is located in Velsen, near many forests and not far from the dunes of Kennemerland. Secondly, the products they use are sustainable, local and seasonal. This also applies for the bedding (they have CocoMat bed which are the best!) and downstairs store. Book a stay or come for lunch or even a coffee with cake. Whatever you do, you should visit this place.
Bosvilla Kennemerduinen
Not too far from Rococo you can find this secluded forest villa that is just perfect for families and a group of friends. It sleeps 8 persons and has an extra guest house next to the premises. Fill your days with walks in the Herenduinen or cycle to IJmuiden beach in just 15 minutes! Snuggle in front of the fireplace and cook dinner in the beautiful kitchen. When you book this villa, you have the whole premises to yourself and your guests including the large garden with trampoline! During the summer you can BBQ outside and in the winter season you can play boardgames while relaxing in the glass living area.
Op Oost Texel
Last year, we stayed at this amazing place on one of the Dutch islands Texel. The owners have created something beautiful at Op Oost and you feel and see their love for food and style. Hippy chic bedrooms, a wonderful restaurant and the perfect base for a few days off. Until the end of November 2021 you can come and enjoy a special “Culi package”, in which you can relax and enjoy a culinary surprise in the Kook Atelier. Their Christmas Package is also nice; don’t wait too long with bookings though! In short: this GastroFarm Op Oost offers a perfect Culinary Escape for the autumn and during the Christmas season! More stays on Texel here.
Omke Jan, Friesland
In a small town in Friesland, you can stay in a tastefully styled farmhouse called Omke Jan. It’s the place for those that like good and pure food, a great ambiance, comfortable rooms, great designed spaces and beautiful surroundings. The founders have renovated the historic farmhouse into a vibrant meeting place where modern meets authenticity. You pay €150 for a double room with breakfast included. Check prices here.
Landgoed De Holtweijde
This is not a place where you just stay for one night. This is where you want to spend the whole weekend or midweek for that matter. The rooms are classic, have large beds and family rooms. Besides the hotel rooms, they also rent out houses on the premises and a romantic cabin overlooking the fields. What did we love about Landgoed de Holtweijde? The surroundings, the indoor swimming pool and the friendly staff! Besides, you can visit the cute town Elburg and the beautiful surroundings of Twente. It’s very close to the German border so if you want to you can full up your car with affordable fuel! đŸ˜‰ Check prices here!
Maris Apartments
Get ready for some luxury treatment, because this is where you will find it! Maris Apartments invited us to experience their luxury apartments by the sea in Egmond aan Zee. We didn’t want to leave! And we didn’t have to because everything was there. A large kitchen, spacious living room, beautiful bed and bathroom and of course the best view we could wish for. Prosecco anyone?Â
Zwier
Back to basic, but in style. At Zwier, you can sleep in bell tents that include comfortable beds and duvets. Located next to the Vinkeveense Plassen, it’s an escape from busy city life. Amsterdam is only 15 minutes away by car, yet it feels like you are miles away. We love this place because you can really go offline for a bit, literally. They offer a package where you leave your phone at reception and you can stay in a house by the lake with everything you need and a book. Food and drinks are included, plus you can use one of the boats to sail away with your thoughts. Time to get ZEN. Would you be up for the challenge?
Family Buitenhuys
Sleep under the stars in a greenhouse in the middle of nowhere with a great scenery over the fields and Markermeer lake. This hidden gem is just 40 minutes away from Amsterdam! A unique experience awaits you when you visit this wonderful place. The Dutch/German owners, who live in Amsterdam, build 4 different tiny houses in total, all at different locations. However, we want to highlight our favourite one, their cosy greenhouse not far from the Dutch capital.
Enjoy these top hotels and stays in the Netherlands!
