14 Mar Zoku Amsterdam, designed for people on the go
After my first article for Wander-Lust, the Berlin City Guide, I was in desperate need of a new place to cover. Then Zoku showed up in my Google search results.
I was bored with the workplaces I already knew and visited too often. On top of that it wasn’t far away from where I lived. As a result, I grabbed my laptop, jumped on my bike and 10 minutes later I arrived at Weesperstraat 105. No time to waste, I had a deadline to meet.
In the black and white lobby I took the elevator to the 6th floor. When the doors opened I immediately felt a sense of recognition: I’ve seen pictures of this place in my Instagram feed!
Most photographed spot at Zoku: the lovely greenhouse.
About Zoku
Zoku isn’t easily defined. It’s neither a hotel nor a restaurant. It’s definitely more. Yes, this is a place where you can stay for a few days but it feels like you’re actually living there. A must visit for people working abroad. To get to the Living Room area I had to walk through a greenhouse. While being surrounded by plants in all shapes and sizes, I enjoyed the view of my beloved city. This beautiful rooftop is a true hidden gem. I could easily picture myself enjoying a drink while watching one of those endless summer sunsets in this urban oasis. Or enjoy my delicious fluffy ricotta pancakes with maple syrup, glazed bacon and vanilla mascarpone I choose for brunch later in the Living Kitchen.

The Concept
Zoku’s concept has a strong focus on people who are travelling or working abroad. If you are a freelancer and have an assignment in Amsterdam for a few weeks, one of the lofts in this place could be the perfect place for you to reside. There are many additional living and working services you can choose from through their own app. The lofts are equipped with an Apple TV, projectors and even a 3D printer is available to bring your designs to life. You can reserve meeting rooms, game rooms or work on your body by burning some calories at HIGH45 next door. Even for Amsterdammers there are plenty of reasons to stop by Zoku. Their food is outstanding and due to its central location it’s perfect to meet a friend and catch up over a coffee.

I visited Zoku on a Saturday afternoon and the atmosphere was best described as super relaxed and chill. The international staff is friendly and helpful. I loved the light, colours and furniture. It did not feel as if I was sitting at a coffee shop or hotel bar. It had a community feeling. Zoku aims to become Amsterdam’s international living room… and I think it definitely has the potential to be so!
